[newbie] Question about sound cards . . .
Does anyone know how to configure an ALSA sound card? When I try to let lothar configure my sound card it says that it can't configure it because it is an ALSA card. I tried configuring it with sndconfig, but I have to enter in values like the DMA and IRQ. How do I tell what values they are from linux? Is there any other way to configure the sound card? And what are the ALSA files that come with RPM contrib CD in the PowerPack? What are these files used for? Thanks for any help, Peter

My previous post: On my first boot into the system, there were 2 problems: 1.) I noticed that LILO only gave me two optons: - linux - dos The 2 choices should be changed to: - linux - floppy Sorry about the mistake. I was in a frantic mood after realizing that LILO didn't have an option for dos. So please help!!! Thanks to all who already replied! Peter

I finally got Mandrake up and running! Love the Window managers Is there anyone I can make my mouse move smoother? I've tried the accelerate and threshold settings. They don't seem to do the trick. The mouse is so smooth in Win2K. Is there any way I can get my mouse to perform the same way in linux? Can I set the mouse resolution like you can in Win2k? (setting it at 100Hz). Peter

[newbie] How do I install Mandrake 7.0???
Hi all, I just downloaded the 2 directories, Mandrake and images, and the install instructions are confusing. I don't have a CD burner and I would like to install off of the hard disk. In fact, I would think that most people want to install straight from their download so I don't know why the instructions are tailored for CD users (doesn't the CD version come with installation documentation?). Do I somehow need to use the hd.img file? Please help! Peter
