It is a disk formatted vfat. Another guy was putting some stuff on in

Claus, I'm not really sure, but since nobody else has had an answer yet, I'll
give it a shot. Does your alias mean that you can replace '/dev/sda4' with
 '/dev/zip'? I figure that's what you mean.
In your first example, shouldn't that be reversed? That is, isn't the command
 #mount /dev/zip /mnt/zip?
Another thing I checked...my fstab file doesn't have the 'exec' that yours does.
Don't know if it belongs there or if it would make a difference...

Re: [newbie] How to config sound on Mandrake 7.0?

Yup, try running "sndconfig" in a terminal window. Just follow the steps from there. I
recomend using the old dma irq etc settings you had before and it should work. if you
are running windows, do a full print of the system profile in ( control panel system
devices ) that way you have a run down of everything...

won't work and sometimes wreckes the modem configuration (when I use lothar?).

I have an x10 mouse remote ( www.x10.com ) that i bought a few months

software to utilize the remote. I know of one for xmms, but I would
preferre a wider base of control of the linux environment through my
remote control. If anyone has any info on this .. please drop me a
line.

Dave

Ps: A tip i dropped before to the masses on this list for xmms, you can
take any winamp skin and use it in your xmms skin by just renaming the
extension from wzs ( or whatever it is ) to zip. It works like that,
then just drop it into the xmms skin dir.

Re: [newbie] Sound Card Cinfiguration

2000-02-19 Thread David Schur

Try running sound config. If you windows 95/98 installed print up the
complete system summary from the control pannel system. devices thing (
it lists all your devices ) just choose to print and it will give you the
optiion of printing a full thing.

Then just run sound config, you will probably have to enter this info from
the print outs once you select what sound card is installed.

Hey, sorry for not replying quicker. I am running into similar type
errors with my mbr, and i have had 0 luck with lilo, so i just use a boot
disk for now. untill i figure something out, as for getting windows back,
just use a windows book disk, restart your computer insert it before the
beep, and just get to a dos prompt under your A:\ drive and type

fdisk /mbr

this should remove lilo from your boot record and windows should load fine
from now on, i just suggest you make a few copies of your boot disk until
you figure out how to make things work right...

Windows could still be booted normally at that point, so then the
Corel directory installed in the Windows C: directory is deleted
 .and
next a CD installation of Mandrake 7.0 is performed. OK ,At this point
DiskDrake has done its work and hacked the windows partition to
 shreds..oops!
never mind. OK methinks, but just for a while at least Im going to
need Windows so I'll restore from the HP restore CD. That done windows
 doesnt
boot. By exploring through linux the DOS partition clearly has
the full and correct Windows98 installation.

The problem is that on booting the LILO hangs right at the bit where
it starts..."LILO" etcbut it only gets as far as the "LI" and then
 hangs.
Linux Mdk boots up just fine with the boot diskette., so i tried
reconfiguring lilo and save to the MBR with klilo AND also Linuxconf to
no avail. I got various error messages like "syntax error near line 17
in file /etc/lilo.conf added windows*ERROR: lilo died" and the
 prob continues...
So, what can I do to remedy this?..
 a) what do I do to get use of windows back?
and how do I then configure lilo right.
 Thanks for your patience people.
