Re: [newbie] cannot mount ZIP
I ran into a small problem like this before... try running the mount -t vfat .. etc etc but instead of sda4 use sda1. it may work for some reason. i had to do this when i was swaping out devices alot.. I figure that's what you mean. In your first example, shouldn't that be reversed? That is, isn't the command #mount /dev/zip /mnt/zip? Another thing I checked...my fstab file doesn't have the 'exec' that yours does. Don't know if it belongs there or if it would make a difference... Re: [newbie] How to config sound on Mandrake 7.0?
Yup, try running "sndconfig" in a terminal window. Just follow the steps from there. I recomend using the old dma irq etc settings you had before and it should work. if you are running windows, do a full print of the system profile in ( control panel system devices ) that way you have a run down of everything... Dave Hello I am running both Manrake 7.0 and Caldera 2.3 on the same machine (not simultaneously, of course!). I did not have probelm to config the ISA Sound blaster AWE 64 withtin Caldera but when I try to do the same on Mandrake 7.0 it won't work and sometimes wreckes the modem configuration (when I use lothar?). Any suggestions on how to configure the sound? Thanks a lot. Eduardo -- "Beware the fury of a patient man." - John Dryden Absalom and Achitophel, pt. I 1680

Title: Anyone out here own an X-10 mouse remote? I have an x10 mouse remote ( www.x10.com ) that i bought a few months ago. I was wondering if anyone out there owns one or knows of any software to utilize the remote. I know of one for xmms, but I would preferre a wider base of control of the linux environment through my remote control. If anyone has any info on this .. please drop me a line. Dave Ps: A tip i dropped before to the masses on this list for xmms, you can take any winamp skin and use it in your xmms skin by just renaming the extension from wzs ( or whatever it is ) to zip. It works like that, then just drop it into the xmms skin dir.
Re: [newbie] Sound Card Cinfiguration
Try running sound config. If you windows 95/98 installed print up the complete system summary from the control pannel system. devices thing ( it lists all your devices ) just choose to print and it will give you the optiion of printing a full thing. Then just run sound config, you will probably have to enter this info from the print outs once you select what sound card is installed. Cherio! Well sorry for not answering directly, but i think its smart to clarifiy this list to people who are either new or don't under stand the nature of this list and most others like it. This list is not a help service ran by mandrake staff... it is hosted by them and watched by thembut ANSWERS are left up to the people who use linux and are on the list. If we don't know the answer...then don't expect a response...or it just may be the thread was ignored for some reason by the people on the list. Hey, sorry for not replying quicker. I am running into similar type errors with my mbr, and i have had 0 luck with lilo, so i just use a boot disk for now. untill i figure something out, as for getting windows back, just use a windows book disk, restart your computer insert it before the beep, and just get to a dos prompt under your A:\ drive and type fdisk /mbr this should remove lilo from your boot record and windows should load fine from now on, i just suggest you make a few copies of your boot disk until you figure out how to make things work right... I got various error messages like "syntax error near line 17 in file /etc/lilo.conf added windows*ERROR: lilo died" and the prob continues... So, what can I do to remedy this?.. a) what do I do to get use of windows back? and how do I then configure lilo right. Thanks for your patience people. Paul
