RE: [newbie] Cant Mount CD-ROM Problem...
Hi! Why don't you try in /etc/fstab /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom supermount user, nosuid, exec, nodev,ro 0 0 (Did you try : mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom ? I suppose you did...) I tried changing the auto to iso9660 and I still get the "mount: /mnt/cdrom is not a valid block device" I tried all combinations (/dev/cdrom, /dev/hdc, /mnt/cdrom) and still the same error message. I can mount the second cdrom though. "mount /dev/cdrom2 /mnt/cdrom2" works but not the primary cdrom. Arerrgg!! =( HELP =( John [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Since you are using the more traditional mounting method, I suggest changing the filesystem type from "auto" to "iso9660". Then with the command $ mount /mnt/cdrom it should work. Phil On Sun, 2 Jul 2000, John Catral wrote: Hi! This what I get for my cdrom in /etc/fstab /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom auto user, noauto, nosuid, exec, nodev,ro 0 0 /dev/cdrom2 /mnt/cdrom2 auto user, noauto, nosuid, exec, nodev,ro 0 0 As you can see I tried with /mnt/cdrom and it does not work. My second CDROM works flawlessly, why not the primary CDROM? RE: [newbie] Docs
Hello I think you have to install the rpm doc-mandrake... (or something like this) since the documentation (for the system; and the howto too) is not installed by default. (reading back, I'm less sure of what I am saying, but check...) I suppose you know that, but just in case... If you try to open the /usr/doc through disk navigator, it will say "too many files" because there is more of 200 of them (default setting that can be changed). So, you must click on "open the directory" on top of the (inexisting!) list. Can you access the directory through the console (for example ls -l /usr/doc/ or cd /usr/doc/) ? Can you access it through kfm (Kde file manager) or gpm (gnome file manager) ? Hope this can be helpful. Didier -Message d'origine- Pete Smith wrote: Hello This my first enquiry I really am new :)) I have tried to read from the docs folder on the kde desktop of the linux 7 I have just intalled and it gives the message "unable to read file() may not exist" I have tried going through (disk navigator) but when I get tousr/doc it says "too many files" and I can't get in. Any suggestions ??? Thanks Pete Sorry no sig I havn't figured out how to do it yet __ message envoye depuis http://www.ifrance.com emails (pop)-sites persos (espace illimite)-agenda-favoris (bookmarks)-forums Ecoutez ce message par tel ! : 08 92 68 92 15 (france uniquement)
RE: [newbie] adaptec scsi aha152x
Hello, I'm not very sure, but /dev/scd0 is a special device, so it must be mount on a directory (mount -t filesystem /dev/scdo /directory and add the line in /etc/fstab : /dev/directory ext2 noauto,dev=/dev/scd0,... or something like this, look at the other lines ;-)). The closest I have come is if I type linux at the prompt that comes up with the 7.1 cdrom install disk. Then if I just follow the basics and let it autoprobe it finds the SCSI card and all 4 SCSI devices that I have on the system (1 cdrom and 3 drives). But the stinking install still can't mount /dev/scd0. It seems the location the script is attempting to mount is none existent. Didier Galland wrote: Hello, I have an adaptec aha152b. Also, the install book doesnt seem to indicate how to set up SCSI later if I do complete the rest of the installation. Suggestions appreciated.
