[newbie] Lost DVB interface
Hi there, After I went from 10.0 to 10.1 my /dev/dvb/adapter0 entry is gone. I can load the modules skystar2 and stv0299. My DVB-S card is a Technisat Skystar 2 PCI. Without that interface adapter0 I cannot watch tv in Xine for example. What I found with google is way beyond my skills, can anyone point out what to do?? I pointed the dvd drive with ln -s /dev/hdc/ /dev/dvd but does not work. The standard CD-RW works fine. How to I fix this? Any help would be really appreciate. Thanks in advance, Oder. Let me guess, You are using MDK 8.1? I had this problem as well. My solution was to upgrade the kernel, I think it had something to do with the broken devfs. On the mandrakesecure website there's a document called the black magic of kernel upgrading. This is a good document for tis purpose. Gerard Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? [newbie] Smart IP on Mandrake
Hi all, Since a few weeks I'm testing a gprs internet connection. For this testing period i'm provided with a gprs cellphone and a Win NT box. Now I thought that i might as wel test this on my own MDK 8.2 box ;-)) I had some problems with logging in. I thought I had misconfigured Kppp, but today I found that this wasn't the case. On this NT box I noticed a prog running called smart IP client (www.broadbeam.com) What I understand of it is that this prog is for optimizing wireless datacommunication. I also noticed that i'm on some kind of VPN and the server that is providing me internet is probably running the serverversion of smart IP . Somewhere in the smart IP config I found an IP adress starting with 10. . . I thought it was an ordinary internet acces, and this explains a bit why I couldn't login. I hope I explained it a bit clearly, I'm not a real network techie. To stay OT, my question is: Can I still use my MDK 8.2 box to connect the internet through this VPN, or is there a linux equivalent of 'Smart IP client ?? Using Kppp wasn't straightforward. ;-( I replaced the ATX init string with the 'APN' string, this is before the dialling. That returned with a OK. [newbie] Dialin in Kppp
Hi, I installed MDK 8.2 on a compter of a bussiness partner of me who wanted to get rid of virusses yesterday. (Yeah, anonther one!! hèhè ;-)) They have an isdn terminal adapter Elsa tango 1000, wich is an external, serial device. As far as I understand this TA should be configured as a normal analog modem in for instance Kppp, am I right? Next question is; when dialling in, there must be a '0' dialled first to get on the external phone network followed by the rest of the phonenumber of the ISP. How do I configure this in Kppp?? You will need to go into the /etc/limits.config file and find the line that shows a file limit of 1 and add a couple of zeros to it. Thanks! That was it! [newbie] win4lin
Hi, I've been installing Win4lin from the powerpack cd's. (I have LM 8.1) In second stage install , booting the win4lin kernel , the computer hangs, gives A kernel panic or reboot by itself at the end of A boot over and over again. I suspect it has something to do with the Ext3 filesystem I have. Could I be right here? Are there any win4lin users that have filesystems other than Ext2? [newbie] DVD on 8.1
Hi, I've installed 8.1 on my systyem more more or less succesfully. I haven't configured everything yet, first things first. The DVD drive won't work, I read some postings on mandrakeforum and the DVD playing howto. With VLC installed and running, and with A movie rom in th drive I klick the play button, but nothing happens. I launched VLC from A terminal to see errors coming by, but no errors. This is what I have done: -Made A simlink; # ln -s /dev/hdc /dev/dvd -Removed the devfs=mount in lilo.conf (for my cdrw) - Did A #hdparm -i /dev/dvd what shows up is all kind of info about my DVD drive. -The dvd drive has the latest firmware.
