[newbie] why permission denied ? just mount please!
I don't understand why when I try to do a nfs mount, I get permission denied! That does not compute. I opened the permissions on the directorys to be exported and the one to mount in the client, thats all I should have to do isn't it? What am I missing? I have /etc/exports to say /mnt/nfs0 192.168.1.3(rw,no_root_squash)192.168.1.2(rw,no_root_squash) I used the setup tool to mount the client which is machine 192.168.1.3 onto the server which is 192.168.1.2 In the /etc/fstab file I have: 192.168.1.2:/mnt/mew /mnt/nfs0 nfs rsize=8192,wsize=8192,nosuid,soft 0 0 It is not split in half, stupid yahoo won't print it out on one line. I do not know what to do, is nfs broken in 9.1 ? on the client side? /etc/fstab has the line: 192.168.1.2:/mnt/mew /mnt/nfs0 nfs rsize=8192,wsize=8192,nosuid,soft 0 0 and on the server, the exports file has this line: /mnt/mew 192.168.1.3(rw,no_root_squash) 192.168.1.2(rw,no_root_squash) all nfs daemons are running. I apologise for all of the nfs noise on the list, I did not wish to waste bandwidth, not sure what I did wrong, I think I got it to work, by re-loading the netfs daemon on the server, must have been something to do with the newer version with 9.1 on the workstation and the older ver. on the server which is mdk 8.2 Nfs is so hard, I am sorry. [newbie] Mysterious XMMS behaviour
Something very bizarre has happened when I installed a new machine. I run an Athlon XP2100 1.67Ghz machine with 256MB ddr ram using the ac97 via8233 audio chip. I got the audio to work by goofing around with an alias in the conf, had to amke it 82xx for some reason. Xmms does not go on to the next sone, k it just stops and waits for you to make it go to the next some. I HATE this! I wish for xmms to just play the next song. Eww! I just installed it, and it detected it great, but the sound is all distorted, TERRIBLE! yuck. How would I go about fixing this? Sorry if this is OT. Is there an avi to mpeg converter for linux that is easy? [newbie] cron is broken?
I can't set up a cron job, either cron or webmin is broken. I try to make it play an mp3 file, with the command mpg123 -b 3000 /home/ipiblo/music.mp3 and all it can do is tell me the home environment variable is not set? How useless. It always worked back in 8.2, I don't understand why its broken, more important, how do i fix this? How do you block Nimda attacks from your logs? Really, now, there must be a way, I have tried script after script, I am still getting attacked by this IP: 65.192.141.115 Who are these criminals? They have no right attacking me like this! I can't whois them or traceroute, or samspade them, it is not fair. I guess you just can't run a web server anymore. Is there one good reason why I should not give up? I don't understand honeyport, it is too hard. Isnt there something easier, a script I can just download and install? Surely, by now, someone has invented a more effective method, surely, I mean, are all the world's webmasters just going to sit down, and take it in the back? Is there a kind soul out there who would like to offer a script to this list that would retaliate by remotely shutting down the attacking server? This has got to stop, I have sat by for too long, and I don't intend to take this attacking any longer. I wish to thank all those who offered me the web pages of honeyport, thank you so much, but I'm looking for something that is more assertive, something that will *do* something, not just e mail the admin only to be ignored, I'm not playing Mr. Nice any more. I'm going to aggressively fight back, if there is a script that I can put in my /bin directory that will scan my /var/tmp/blocked file and instead of just ipchain-ing them out, (INEFFECTIVE!) it will shut them down, it is the only way. I am getting strange hits to my web server, I don't like it and I wish to know how to stop them from slipping past my defenses. I have ipchains firewall offending adresses. There is one address, I don't understand, HOW it can still hit my server. The address is 65.192.156.2 This is *impossible*!!! Hmm, firewall, good idea, do you mean the one which is in my router or use ipchains? I think ipchains or uhh whats the other software firewall- would work better because I don't think my router's firewall has ip blocking, its a Linksys---. Hello, would anyone know where I can find a script that would shut down or stop a nimda infected server?
