go to a terminal sheel and type mount -a this will force linux to reread the
fstab and remount everything

You don't need to reboot, when you try to mount each time it will read
 /etc/fstab at that time

7, it will install, java, flash and whatever that other big thing is, (cant
remember off hand.

  was doing I guess

Step-by-Step (this is the way I do it, you may modify if you wish)

Download the gzipped file (flash_linux.tar.gz or whatever this version
 happens to be named)
At this point I usually copy the tarball to /usr
As root, I Cd to the directory the file is in (in my case #cd /usr) and
 unpack it with the command:

 #tar -xzvf flash_linux.tar.gz
 the command is:
  tar -xzvf the_flashplayer_tarfile_name

A directory /usr/flash_linux will be created. Inside that directory will
 be two files --libflashplayer.so ShockwaveFlash.class

Copy these two files to your /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins directory (and to
your /usr/lib/netscape/plugins directory if you use Netscape)

Now, when you open Mozilla, the Helpabout Plug-ins list will have
Shockwave Flash. It should work for you (always has for me)

Pliler, I just installed WP from the cd-rom. It is named
WordPerfect_Tar.Tar I could not get it to work either untill I copied it
to disk and renamed it WordPerfect.tar.gz. Then I could unzip it into a
directory and run the RUNME file. It installed with out a hitch.

   Thanks Michael and all,
Yes, in fact if you read all those numbers at boot, I found it.
I tried installing WP , just now, under root of course, it just
   sat there and did nothing.
Using KDE, I clicked the CDrom icon, (with the disk in the cd) and
saw and read the readme file, but when I tried to do mandrake.run
   nothing.
   Ideas?

Re: [newbie] Sorting Messages in KMail

Armando, Try the mail reader in Netscape messenger, It is top notch and better
than M$ Outlook.

 Hey, all!

Just wondering if there was a way to have the messages automatically sorted by
 date sent in Kmail.

I've had to click on the Date header everytime I've gotten new mail in order to
view it this way. Turning into a Major Drag (C) since I only recently cut over
from MS Outlook. The sort works only on a limited basis; I still can't get
KMail to sort my mail properly.dates are grouped together, but at the same
time are still out of sequenceI'm looking for the newest mail to be at
the begining of the mail window..ala M$ Outlook, Eudora, etc

Related question: Can anyone recommend a better mail reader? I like KMail,
but I'm used to more functionality from my M$oft days.

[newbie] Linux Games

1999-05-13 Thread Luke Vandervort

Hello, I have noticed that there are a bunch of
games located in /usr/games
I can only get two of them to work. xboard and
xgammon. My family would love to play these games, We are trying to make Linux a
family op. I have tried opening a window and typing the names to no avail. I
have also gone into xwindows and double clicked on them. They just lock up my
system most times.

I can see that they are executables, and
Ihave permissions for them as root. How do I get them started? I saw many
many games being installed when I install, but don't see them, nor can I start
them. Any help?

Also, how do I start some of the other GUI's I
would like to check them out. Thanks.
