[newbie] ID10T error: Network probs...

2001-08-24 Thread Marchetti, Peter

Ok...I'm stupid...I admit it. My problem in the last post was that I had
the internal card plugged into the Inet hub, and the Inet card plugged into
the internal hub. I am moron, watch me network.

Now the server can't ping past the router. I get the message Network not
available. Router is properly configed, (another server is using it no
problems)

IP and netmask are right. I can ping the router, I can ping the other
server on the hub. But I can't get traffic BEYOND the router...why?

Do you have a default gateway defined?

i.e linuxconf - networks - routing and gateways - defaults - default
gateway

Is your router's IP address in there and is it correct? Since you have
connectivity within your local network it sounds like your machine doesn't
know where to go for address outside your local IP range.

[newbie] Firewall recommendations?

2001-08-20 Thread Marchetti, Peter

What do you recommend for a GNU firewall solution? I'm running Linux with 2
network cards and want to use the box as a Apache, FTP, DNS, and proxy
server.

I want to make Samba and Telnet available only to the INTERNAL card.

Any recommendations?

[newbie] cups.h and language.h missing?

2001-07-31 Thread Marchetti, Peter

I downloaded Samba, got it to make, and it reported not being able to find
the last 2 files...cups.h and language.h.

I checked, and sure enough, they aren't there. Where can I find just these
two files?

installing the cup-devel rpm fixed the problem. Thanks.

Peter,

Verify that you have cups-devel, which is what provides cups.h -- not sure
what provides language.h .

cups.h comes from cups-devel

[newbie] Network config at command line

2001-07-30 Thread Marchetti, Peter

The Madrake control center network config app is OUT OF CONTROL slow on my
box. Anyone know why? Anyone know where a good FAQ or HOW-TO is to tell me
how to change and maintain my network config through the console?

[newbie] Open GL issues, using NT proxy

2001-07-17 Thread Marchetti, Peter

I just installed M8 on my system. I have a VooDoo3 3000 card. The normal
video works fine, but I cannot get any OpenGL software to run. (Example:
Tux Racer, ect) This is the error message I get when I try to run an OpenGL
program:

XLib: extension GLX missing on display :0.0
XLib: extension GLX missing on display :0.0
Couldn't set GL mode: Couldn't find matching GLX visual

Any ideas? I have the glide for Voodoo3 installed, and the Xfree86 GL lib
installed.

Also, I'm trying to get this thing to talk to the net through a Windows NT4
proxy server. Anyone figured out how to do it? It's driving me nuts.

Thanks In Advance
