[newbie] SoundBlaster 32/64AWE

2000-05-05 Thread Mike Thompson

Help When I run sound config. Mandrake 7.0 detects my card the give
the following message...

"Don't know what to do with configure ctl044/272955226
(LD2 on or around Line 345
Fatal error parsing config file ---no action taken"

If I try the autoconfig with the values I found in Win98 I get the same
results.

Ideas?
Thanks

Re: [newbie] Problem installing Star Office and Word Perfect

2000-05-04 Thread Mike Thompson

Check the Corel Newsgroup for WP2k, looks like a lot of unhappy campers. I tried
installing it twice and then called and asked for my money back on the WP2k deluxe
package I bought.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Try going to Corel's website and dowloading the tar package - think it's called
 guilg00.gz
 then do this :-
 mkdir $Home/tmp
cd to the directory you downloaded it to and,
 cp guil00.gz $HOME/tmp
 gunzip guilg00.gz
 tar -xvf guilg00
then run the installer ./Runme and follow the prompts.
when asked for a directory to install into I used /usr/local/corel
 select your printer.
to launch WordPerfect (if you used the directory I did) type the following
 command
 /usr/local/corel/wpbin/xwp
   language modules are
available for the language you need, similar to the above, to run with language
installed type /usr/local/corel/wpbin/xwp -lang (your language abbreviation
eg, US, UK,) so that it appears as for example /usr/local/corel/wpbin/xwp
 -langUS

Star Office did install, but even after making sure I selected the
English (US) version of it, when I open it it's in german. Word Perfect
won't even install for me, which I already have a bad taste in my mouth
with them from trying to use Corel's Linux OS.

I'm sure I'm missing something basic, but can't figure out what it is.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

[newbie] Netscape

2000-04-30 Thread Mike Thompson

Have spent most of the weekend playing with my new Linux. Downloaded
the new 128-bit netscape. Think I got it to install but have not
figured out how to point the icon on my kde to the right spot. When I
click on Netscape I seem to get ver 4.7 56 bit. How do I fix this.

Thanks for any help

Re: [newbie] link light

1999-12-30 Thread Mike Thompson

What version of linux are you using? If its one of the 6.0 distro's then
thats your problem there b/c the dhcp dump is messed up on it. Check your
network config and make sure the eth0 interface is set to dhcp rather than
static. Also check your conf.modules in the /etc dir and see if the ethernet
card driver is in there allowing it to be loaded.

Should there be a link light on the ethernet card and the cable modem
if the system says the eth0 is up..

Mine is not on but if I re boot back to windows I can use the ethernet
card to get on the internet.

 any answers would be apreciated.

 thanks
