Could get a PCI version ? I am thinking of doing that so I can use two

Re: [newbie] Credit card charging conventions

On-topic because I'm referring to MandrakeSoft :)

I put in an order for a boxed set of 9.0 yesterday (the 7-CD PowerPack), and
note that the £50 appears to have been charged to my credit card although
the boxed sets are due out third week in October.

This sort of thing - taking the money before the goods are _capable_ of
being dispatched - is frowned on, although not illegal, in the United
Kingdom, and a large proportion of companies say up front that we will not
debit your card until the goods are dispatched, and don't. What are the
conventions in other counties?

(I also note that the Value Added Tax rate in France is 19.6 per cent. It's
a mere 17.5 per cent in the United Kingdom).

Alastair

As an example hotels in Las Vegas charge your credit card for the first
night of your stay as soon as you book, which can be months in advance.
I don't know of other hotels in other US states doing that, and I have
stayed in quite a few with my job.

[newbie] Home Network Problems

2002-08-25 Thread Richard Ingram

Hi,

OK my home net, at the moment is as below:

CableModem-XP PC--Linux PC

Now I have some questions:

1. I have Internet Connection Sharing on the XP box, this doles out an
IP to the Linux box via DHCP. I can browse from the Linux box, read
news, email and ftp no problems. However when I try and use Gnomemeeting
to the XP box I get a load of DNS queries coming from the Linux box,
directed to the XP box, which it reckons is a DNS server, trying to find
out who has the name of the linux box. It then tries to open the
connection to the XP box, it sends the out TCP packets and the Q.931
SETUP packet. Netmeeting however does not respond.

2. I also have a problem when trying to configure samba via the browser,
it comes back telling me connection to localhost is broken, anyone know
how to cure that one ?

3. Is it a good idea to update the /etc/hosts file from the dhcp reply
with the name/address doled out ? This would stop the DNS queries as the
host would be fully resolved in the /etc/hosts file.

Thanks for any help.

Richard.

PS Soon WiFi will be installed to replace the XP box as the NAT.

[newbie] CD Playing with home brewed SMP kernel

2002-07-24 Thread Richard Ingram

Hi,

Just tried to play an audio CD and I get the following messages in my
syslog and dialogue box on screen.

Using Konq Services Audio CD Browser - The file or directory / does not
exist, and the following message in syslog:

Jul 24 23:47:30 faust modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-21

last message displayed N number of times

With XMMS the play button opens up a dialouge box for file location etc,
I enter /mnt/cdrom but no files or anything are displayed. Does anyone have
any idea what may be wrong, CD's play fine under Win2K on the same machine.

Oh yes I did rebuild my Kernel for SMP and did do some pruning in the config
of
the kernel, hope I did not remove something vital ;-)

The CD is on the onboard IDE channel2, primary, HD is on Promise Ultra66
card.

Thanks for any tips.

Richard.

Re: [newbie] Matching email datafile between Winlows and linux.

2002-07-22 Thread Richard Ingram

 Hi guys...

Got a question for you desktop guru's.

I would love to put my Lookout *.PST files on my shared fat32 drive so
that when I dual boot from either winblows or linux, I can use the same
 settings/email archives etc..

Can Evolution use Lookout PST files?

Is there an application that uses the same email datafiles in both linux
and windows? (can Mozilla/Netscape do this?) is there anything other
then Mozilla that could potentially do this?

Hello,

I asked this same type of Q just yesterday, I will be trying it this week,
want to share my email boxes between Mozilla and/or Emacs (not decided
which to use yet). Going to also share my newsrc (news reading history)
files between Emacs on XP/MD8.2.

Richrd.

[newbie] Sharing Mozilla Email

2002-07-21 Thread Richard Ingram

Hi,

Just a quick question before I upgrade my main PC's HD and get 8.2 and XP
running on it. Has anyone done or tried the following.

1. Sharing between Mozilla and/or Emacs mailboxes with 8.2/XP ? I would like
to read my mail from both OS's and store mail from the mail lists in folders
etc. Same for bookmarks etc.

2. Same for reading news from Emacs, i.e.. share the rc files so I can
resume reading under either OS.

3. I use cygwin under XP so was thinking of sharing my Linux ~home area and
mounting this from cygwin.

The way I am going to set things up is have the 80GB HD split 50/50 for
XP/MDL and have my 60GB disk shared with a fat32 file system and have my
home directory on this, also my CD images/backups etc.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Richard.

[newbie] Modules build errors

2002-06-22 Thread Richard Ingram

Hello,

System Info:
Tyan S1668 Dual PentiumPro@180MHz
224MB RAM
TNT2 32MB
Promise Ultra66 Card
Netgear FA311 Ethernet
SB AWE64
15GB Quantum LCT15.

Just installed Mandrake 8.2 on my Dual PentiumPro box and decided to fine
tune the kernel, make bzImage builds no problem but when the modules build I
get the following compile errors:

make -C block modules
make[2]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.18-6mdk/drivers/block'

 end compile errors

Now looking at the files these are the lines that are flagged:

asm/spinlock.h:10

extern int printk(const char * fmt, ...)
 __attribute__ ((format (printf, 1, 2)));

asm/processor.h:51
struct cpuinfo_x86 {
...
 unsigned long loops_per_jiffy;
...
} __attribute__((__aligned__(SMP_CACHE_BYTES)));

Obviously somewhere in my config I have either got something #defined that I
should or should not, for all my looking I cannot see what it could be, I
bet it is something so simple I am just overlooking it.

Anyone else had any problems building modules ?

Thanks for any help or hints.

Richard.
