[newbie] Adapter Help
Hi, I have been having problems trying to connect to the Internet through Mandrake 7.1. Mandrake recognizes my NIC card and when it boots up eth0 is in the list and everything is ok. I must be doing something wrong in the network config files. I have used netcfg to edit it, but still nothing. Every time I try to connect or ping a site, all I get is host unknown. Is there a standard of IP addresses to use? I have used 192.168.1.1 and still nothing. I have read all the docs, but still nothing. I have use many examples from magazines and so on. If anyone has this same problem or if anyone has resolved this issue, please let me know. I have a EnterNet SMC adapter. My provider is BellSouth and they don't support Linux in any form or fashion. When I boot into Windows, I have to connect from an icon on my desktop to establish the connection, but in Mandrake, how do I startup my service without that icon? A newbie question. TIA, Ron

I can tinker around with Linux until my new system gets here that way I will know how to set it up and operate. I apologize if this isn't the right forum for this question. Thanks, Ron

[newbie] Second Stage Install Error
Hello, I am trying to install mandrake 7.0. Everythings goes well until it gets to the 2ns stage install and I receive this error: install exited abnormally -- received signal 9 send termination signals sending kill signals unmounting filesystem /tmp/hdimage /tmp/stage 2 /proc The End What does this error mean and is there a workaround for it? Also, I am doing a hard drive install using hd.img floppy. Thanks RWB
[newbie] Basic Help
Hello Group, In the install process, it asks the following question. What partition and directory on that partition holds the Mandrake/RPMS and Mandrake/base directory? If you remember from my post yesterday, all my files are on my hard drive. Actually: C:\7.0 I have tried everything I could think of and there is no docs on this part of the install. I guess I am just to old and used to a Windows enviroment. If you can help, that would be great. Thanks Ron

[newbie] A Very Very Basic Question
Hi Group, I do apologize for being so novice. That is what one gets forworking on this all night without rest and I must say thank God for adsl :)It seems that many people are missing my point. I do not have theinstallation of Mandrake on a CD-ROM. A plain download to my local harddrive. My problems seems to come from trying to do a RAWRITE.exe I havenever ran into this before, so it's a learning process. I followed thedirections, but the files I need to write to the floppy want write there. In my mistake of downloading the ISO and using winimage, it worked perfect. When click the RAWRITE file, it asks for the image source fileI enterhd.image a:: but nothing. What am I doing wrong? Thanks,Ron Brown

Also was a:: appended to that field? That would also be incorrect. I suggest that you use the dos (rawrite.exe) program rather than either of the windows versions. Run it in a dos window.
