[newbie] mdk 6.0 boot disc question
I neglected to take out my boot disc when I was making a floppy, and overwrote it. I am dual booting, and use a boot disc to get to linux. I need to make a new bootdisc and am unsure how to. Here's what I tried: I loaded tomsrtbt into my box, and mounted my linux partition, and gave the command "mkbootdisc", which I thought was all I had to do. This didn't work. I then tried looking around for my boot image to copy, but I'm not sure where it is, or if that's all I would need. In /boot there are two vmlinuz images, but i'm not sure how to copy them and if they are what I need. I tried to, just to experiment but it didn't work. Heres what I did: dd if=vmlinuz of=/dev/fd0. I know this is real newbie stuff, but any help will be much appreciated. tia russell

I just installed Win2k on a new 13 gig HD which I fdisk'ed into a 11 gig and a 2 gig partition. I want to try Mandrake out, but whenever I try to install Mandrake, I get an error during disk druid which reads "Boot Partition too big." This occurs even when I make a 1 meg linux partition and mount it at /. Any ideas? Do I *really* have to format, switch to LBA, and reinstall?! thanks Dave
Re: [newbie] newbie books
Running Linux by Matt Welsh/et al from O'Reilly. If you did a poll I believe that this book would be the most recommended. It's available at most book stores, such as Barnes Noble, and of course from on line purveyors like amazon. Russell Philomena wrote: Hi all, Can anyone recommend a few good startup Linux books ? Re: [newbie] Mouse Question - MS Intellimouse Explorer (USB)
I have the same mouse, and have had difficulty getting the scrolling feature to work. I chose generic mouse drivers during the install, and my mouse works fine except for scrolling. If you really need scrolling support, check this out... http://www.linux.ie/beginners-linux-guide/intellimouse.html hope this helps... Russell (another newbie) "Peter H. I know that the site says 'all mice', but I wan't to be sure that this particular mouse will have at lease some functionallity. Thanks. _ Grasshopper _

Re: [[newbie] Mandrake 70-2 install]
i had the same problem...try checking _no_ at this prompt...when i did, the rest of the install worked... It is loading the begining of the install process, but I can only get as far as "searching for pcmcia..blahblahblah"...it then gives me an error of "can't open /proc/bus/pci/devices" This is far as I can get. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I am missing (something in a wrong directory on the files I downloaded???)
