I got RR Tycoon II Gold Edition from my kids for Christmas. It works
better than the windows version. The play area scrolls faster and it
MULTITASKS- this is cool.

Re: [newbie] flashing bios

2000-01-01 Thread Sam Walker

John's right. Also, I'd send a letter of complaint to Asus. The
squeaky wheel gets the grease and if enough Linux users start causing
a fuss, it'll only move things along faster on the vendors end (you
also have to back it up with your pocketbook.)

Can you get your hands on a DOS boot disk? ;-) IF so, just use the

Re: [newbie] can anyone help me to install sound blaster?

1999-12-30 Thread Sam Walker

If you have a SB PCI128 Live, it's not supported yet as far as I know.
If you have a std SB PCI128, you should be able to manually select it
in snd config. If not you may have an IRQ conflict (if you have an
internal modem, check the IRQ there, it's typically the biggest
culprit when it comes to conflicts with sound cards)

Re: [newbie] two monitors; experience with wine?; Database programs?

1999-12-29 Thread Sam Walker

From the reviews I've read Vmware is much better than Wine, but you
have to pay $99 after the trial period. It'll only run for 30 days
without being unlocked.

 Hi, Hannes,

I've seen photos on the Web of people with dual monitor Linux systems.
 Try this link for starters
 http://www.redhat.com/mirrors/LDP/LDP/LG/issue17/answer.html#vidX.
Good
 luck,

  Hi,

At win98 it is possible to install two graphiccards and monitors,
so if you move your mouse to the edge of the monitor you can
  switch between them.
This is very fine because I can have the main Window on my 19"
monitor and the toolpalettes on the 15" one .

Is this possible with Linux too?

Does anyone have some experience with the windows modulator
  "wine?". Ore other emulators better?
How much does emulating windows affect the speed?
I am using the Vectorworks 2d-3d drawing and rendering program
from Diehlgraphsoft and would like to run it at Linux.
My hardware: CPU: Celeron 400 mhz, overclocked to 500 mhz
Graficards: Matrox Millenium II (PCI) 8Mb
  ATI Rage II (AGP) 8Mb
RAM: 128 Mb

Can someone tell me a really good Database program for Linux?
The one which is included at the Staroffice isn't the best
I need to be able to make sophisticated calculations.

Thanks in Advance and a happy, y2k- conforming New Year's Eve ;-)

Re: [newbie] X/Mandrake 6.1

1999-12-28 Thread Sam Walker

I can see one problem already

 Section "Pointer"
 Protocol"PS/2"
 Device "/dev/mouse"

If this is a PS2 mouse, the device should be /dev/psaux

Also, did you try picking a std ps2 mouse first. I had problems with
the mouse under suse when I tried running the intelliwheel add-on, and
the problem was similar to what you're experiencing.

 Section "Keyboard"
 Protocol"Standard"

Try using it as a 104 key keyboard, I have a clone of the MS natural
keyboard and it runs fine with this selected.

On the TNT2 card- many of them will run fine if you tell it ok when
the video setup tells you you have a Viper 770 (this depends on how
closely the mfg stuck to the reference std established by nvidia). I
have a Leadtek Winfast and this worked for me when trying to set the
parameters manually didn't work.

Thanks in advance for your help,
 Toby Walsh

Re: [newbie] cannot boot

1999-12-28 Thread Sam Walker

Go to mandrakeuser.org, then go to the kernel section. There is a page
that wlks you through each step you need to do to get it to boot with
the new kernel and tells you exactly what changes you need to make to
lilo.

   Hi...

   I have this problem.
I upgraded my kernel from kernel-2.2.13-7mdk to
   kernel-2.2.13-22mdk.
But when i booted, lilo cannot find the new kernel (i
   guess, since it
stoped after the prompt) I booted using bootdisk and
   tried to change
lilo configuration to boot the new image file
'/boot/vmlinuz-2.2.13-22mdk'. But there was an eror
   that won't accept
my root partition which in /dev/hda7. It says that
   hda7 either invalid
or not linux partition. I dont understand because
   before this (for
kernel-2.2.13-7mdk) the root partition is the same,
   /dev/hda7 which is
linux partition, and that where my root partition is.

Even before this (when i still with
   kernel-2.2.13-7mdk) when i tried to
change the label (in lilo, for boothing linux) it
   won't accept it with
   the same error.
   What's the problem?

   Do You Yahoo!?
Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com

You will need to boot with a floopy disk with the following
 parameters linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.2.13-22mdk
Log on as root and edit your /etc/lilo.conf
Open a Console and write lilo
It will re-configure your system to boot with the new kernel
Also your hda partitions will be restored
