Hi
I have MDK 9.1, I am not able to play .WMV movie

How about .WMA audio files?

THanks

Re: [newbie] vectorlinux? Too much choices

2004-03-08 Thread Tadimeti Keshav
Hi Cristophe,
I have an exactly similar machine, a P200MMx with 64MB
Ram.
I installed FreeBSD 5.1.
Here is what I installed:
XMMS via ports
WindowMaker from the CD-ROM
Acroread (PDF)
Opera Mozilla (browsers - both are CPU intensive)
WindowMaker, is quite simple to configure.
So you can easily have a working machine. I doubt if
it will be worth the effort to install (java based)
office packages. You can probably he happy with
AbiWord.

you are welcome to contact me for any further details

BeOS Air
You have to pay for the tickets, but they're half the price of Windows Air, and if you
are an aircraft mechanic you can probably ride for free. It only takes 15 minutes to
get to the airport and you are cheuferred there in a limozine. BeOS Air only has
limited types of planes that only hold new luggage. All planes are single seaters and
the model names all start with an F (F-14, F-15, F-16, F-18, etc.). The plane will
fly you to your destination on autopilot in half the time of other Airways or you can
fly the plane yourself. There are limited destinations, but they are only places you'd
want to go to anyway. You tell all your friends how great BeOS Air is and all they say
is What do you mean I can't bring all my old baggage with me?

[newbie] Mandrake 9.1 on a 64MB RAM box

2004-02-12 Thread Tadimeti Keshav
Hi all,
I wonder if I can install and run Mandrake 9.1 on a
machine with a Pentium 200 MMX, 64MB RAM and 10 GB
HDD.

I believe the processor and RAM will limit the
usability of the machine. Can I install MDK without
KDE/GNOME? My experience has been that MDK would
install KDE whether you want it or not.

What I want is a lean installation with Window
Maker/FluxBox as window managers and the ability to
play sound and connect to the internet.

sound = the box has a soundblaster 16 compatible.

BTW, does MDK 9.1 have a PPP program to connect to the
internet (other than the excellent KPPP).
wvDial gave me a lot of headaches.

I tried FreeBSD 5.1(Slack was plain too tough).
But sound needs a kernel compile and I have reached a
dead end with linking failure. (the .o files wouldn't
link).

thanks

Now you'll need a text editor to browse and edit

Linux Airlines
Disgruntled employees of all the other OS airlines decide to start their own airline.
They build the planes, ticket counters, and pave the runways themselves. They charge a
small fee to cover the cost of printing the ticket, but you can also download and
print the ticket yourself. When you board the plane, you are given a seat, four bolts,
a wrench and a copy of the seat-HOWTO.html. Once settled, the fully adjustable seat is
very comfortable, the plane leaves and arrives on time without a single problem, the
in-flight meal is wonderful. You try to tell customers of the other airlines about the
great trip, but all they can say is, You had to do what with the seat?

[newbie] [OT]:CD tray doesn't eject

2003-08-07 Thread Tadimeti Keshav
Hi all,
I just bought a EIDE Western Digital Caviar (I think it is also called Ultra ATA) and made it the master. The ATAPI Sony CD-ROM is the slave.

After boot, I get the obvious message - device not ready.
The problem is that I am not able to eject the CD tray (so that I can begin Mandrake installation).

Motherboard = D815EEA
Processor = PIII 866 MHz

I am able to see both the ATAPI CD-ROM Hard Disk in the BIOS.

Has anyone faced this problem before? Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
