[newbie] liquid and libstdc++4
I'm trying to install liquid for kde3 on mandrake 8.2 using an rpm. It seems that I am missing libstdc++4. Does anyone know where I can get this? The latest mandrake rpm I could find on rpmfind was 2.95. Thanks Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com
[newbie] relay ports through gateway using bastille
Is this possible? I can't seem to find an option for it in InteractiveBastille. I'm trying to log into my desktop using ssh from my internet connection at work. My gateway is an old computer running mandrake 8.2. Whats the best way to do this? Should I write a script using iptables? Would this mess up my Bastille setup? [newbie] postfix: can't receive email
I sent something earlier but I don't think it got through. I'm having problems receiving mail with postfix. I had it working before but now it isn't. When I send email to my computer from a remote address , it doesn't make it and I get an email stating that the connection was refused(at the remote email address) by my home computer. I can send email to myself from my home computer and outgoing mail reaches its destination ok. It sounds like a firewall issue to me but I can't find anything wrong with my bastille setup. Any ideas? Re: [newbie] OT: Small OS for Old Hardware
ned, If you have a network card for the laptop and you have another computer, the network install is pretty painless. The hardest part is getting the built in firewall to allow the NFS connection. I have 8.1 running as a gateway/router on a p200mmx with 32mb ram. Seems to be working ok. Not great for running x though. Blackbox is quick but the mandrake configuration programs are pretty slow. Re: [newbie] ActiveSync
I have a hp540 series jornada as well and also would be interested. The only thing I could think of is either using an ssh program for the pocket pc or use a card reader for the linux box. This would only transfer files not sync them or convert them. Where did you see linux for the 548? Re: [newbie] what to use for hostname
Thanks, I signed up with dydns.org. It seems to be working. I noticed that windows(before I set up a gateway) thinks my domain name is name.vc.shawcable.net where name is the name I gave the computer. Is this ok to use? Anyone on vc.shawcable.net could have chosen the same name. Thanks There are several possible solutions for you. The main thing you need to do is make sure you have a valid domain name like myserver.mydomain.org, where myserver is the actual hostname, mydomain.org is the domain name, and myserver.mydomain.org is the fully qualified domain name. The reason for this is that many mail servers refuse to relay or even receive mail from servers for which they con't do a dns lookup. A dns lookup requires having your server registered with a domain, thus the need for a sully qualified domain name. name.vc.shawcable.net might work, as long as your ISP maintains a dns entry for that host name. To test this, have someone out on the Internet try to ping or traceroute to your system. If they can resolve the domain name into an IP address and find you, then everything is ok. Otherwise, you will need to register a domain, either a permanent domain name, or a subdomain of a public domain name provider like dyndns.org. I use dyndns.org, and they work fine. They allow you to have either a dynamic or static IP address, and give you a host name of myserver.dyndns.org. My server is sildara.dyndns.org, and you should be able to point your web browser to my server and see a boring web page. There are other things to be aware of, like the possibility that your ISP will block certain ports (especially port 80, because of the Code Red worm from a few months back). Also, depending on how your cable modem works, you might need to do some special configuration to allow your server to be visible to the Internet. Do some more reading of the docs, and if you have more questions, just post them. Dave Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com

[newbie] gateway/router help
I'm trying to set up a p200mmx 32mb ram as my gateway/router/firewall. I'm having some problems. I'm using mdk8.1. I have one network card connected to my cable modem and one to my hub. The p200 can connect to the internet and can connect to my laptop. My laptop can connect to thep200 but can't get to the internet (can't ping ip addresses nor urls). I've tried to follow instructions on ip-tables but I seem to be missing something. I've also tried using the connection sharing through the mandrake control center but it tells me that it can't set up DHCP server package. I've checked and that is installed. I get the internet ip through dhcp. My internal ips are static. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Re: [newbie] where can I set mouse sensitivity?
I just ran across this the other day. Haven't tried it: http://www.troubleshooters.com/tpromag/200104/200104.htm heres the relevant section: I bought the Dexxa Mouse on 1/6/2001 and installed it 1/7/2001. It made my mouse performance even worse. The Linux mouse was as bad as a notebook computer's stick mouse or thumb pad, but without even the remedy of plugging in a different mouse. I was preparing to post an email to LEAP explaining that I was abandoning the Linux transition because I couldn't accomplish anything with such a poor mouse system. But as I was penning that email, I stumbled across a little known option to go in XF86Config-4: Option Resolution 1600 That option goes with all the other options in your mouse pointer section. It sped up the mouse without resorting to jerky, quirky acceleration. I deleted my intended post, and instead wrote a long, rambling post about the fix, and how great Linux is. I had re-learned what I'd forgotten so many times before -- that Linux is so configurable and so powerful and comes with so many great tools, that you can make it do anything you want. Hope that helps On December 10, 2001 10:17 pm, you wrote: where can I set mouse sensitivity either in linux or gnome? -Paul RodrÃguez _ Do You Yahoo!?
