[newbie] Unsubscription feature doesn't work?

2000-05-15 Thread kiriakos

Hi all,

I was wondering if there's a problem with the mail server? I have made
an unsubscription request 2 days ago, through the web page, and I'm
still getting all the email. Does it take so long for the server to
process the request maybe?

Re: [newbie] GET NT Services from Linux

2000-04-07 Thread kiriakos

Have you set your proxy to serve all these protocols? What proxy are you
using? If it's a freeware one they sometimes only provide a fraction of
the services you can have with a registered version, (like Sambar at
www.sambar.com).

Now I have my Linux working, as a NORMAL installation (NOT server neither

I'm able to Navigate Internet using the Proxy Server (NT Server) in my LAN.
I had to manually enter the Porxy Server IP adress I then ... I could
 navigate wihtout any problems.

But what must I do if I wanna use all other Proxy SERVICES of my Proxy
 Server ??

Thus ... I wanna use IRCChat , and E-Mail ... and all other programs that
 uses Winsock proxy ...

 Thanks for all.

[newbie] Netscape files

2000-04-07 Thread kiriakos

Hi all,

I was wondering if it is possible in a dual boot system (linux, win98)
to have Netscape for Linux share the user files with Netscape for
windows, in a way of telling the linux version to look for the user
directory in /mnt/dos/.../Netscape user folder, effectively sharing
mail, bookmarks, browser settings, and cache content between OS's. Is
this possible? I haven't noticed any customizable user folder setting in
Netscape for windows, but is there such a thing in Netscape for Linux?
Or some other way to do it?

Thanks in advance,
GG

[newbie] KDE problems

2000-04-06 Thread kiriakos

Hi all,

I have installed Mandrake 7.02 numerous times and I now have a pretty
good feel of the buttons to push, I even do it with my eyes closed,
hehe...

Seriously, my problem is with KDEit seems to start up fine but just
before the icons appear on screen, I get KFM error messages that 'this
MIME type wasn't found' or something. I get as many messages as the MIME
types supported, and when I OK all the windows, icons and taskbar
finally appear. But all the icons on the Desktop are those papers with a
question mark (probably general unknown icon?) and whatever I try to
click gives me a window that asks what program to associate this link
with. So I guess the KDE installation is incomplete, or corrupted.

However, I noticed that everytime I do either an install or an upgrade,
on reboot my root partition comes up with errors and a check is forced.
During the check, many files (most in /var/spool) are changed to
filetype 6. (yeah I know, I'm RTFM at the same time :-)

Does this mean that my hard disk might have tons of bad sectors? (It WAS
acting up somehow, before I decided to put linux on him). And if so, is
there a way to mark them as such, prior to upgrading, and do a
reinstallation on the healthy remaining disk? It seems that whenever I
reinstall or upgrade, the same files get the same errors. I'm not even
sure if these errors have anything to do with my KDE not working, but it
seems very likely.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
GG

Re: [newbie] Mouse ok in console, but..

2000-03-19 Thread kiriakos

James, try reconfiguring Xwindows and change the baud rate of the mouse
to 1200, that worked for me

Ok, now I have my mouse working just fine when I am in the console (just
before issuing startX), but when I start Xwindows, my mouse cursor starts
in the center of the gray window, but as soon as the background and icons
appear, my cursor jumps off to the edge of the screen and moves up when I
scroll down, and down when I scroll up, and opens and closes windows
without me clicking. It's posessed. I'm running Mandrake 6.1.

What is the reason for this, and is there a fix? It's strange that it
behaves fine in the console window but freaks in Xwindows.

 Thanks.

[newbie] Mandrake 7.0 - Installation screams 'error not enough space in partition /

2000-03-17 Thread kiriakos

Hello all,

I just got a Mandrake 7.0 distribution from a computer magazine. It all
goes well up to the point that it asks me for the packages I want to
install.

I had the disk auto-allocated, which gives me around 1409 Megs for the /
partition. I chose "expert" installation (I'm not an expert, just a
freak, hehe) and development type. After that point, the installation
gives me an error saying more or less that the packages I chose are 1180
Megs in size and there's no space for all of them (like 1180 1409?)
but I could go on anyway, just I won't get all packages installed. I OK
this, to go on, and then I get a menu of package choices (Server,
Development, Games, etc.) I choose the absolute minimum, which is 1180
Megs, and when I OK this too, I get an error that the .rpms could not be
installed because of no space in / partition.

This is weird cause I restarted after I partitioned, so there shouldn't
be a problem for the installation to see the allocated space.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Re: [newbie] Mandrake 7.0 - Installation screams 'error notenough space in partition/

2000-03-17 Thread kiriakos

It is 7.0, but do you know for sure that this bug has been fixed in
7.0-2? Because I would like to have 7.0 running and upgrade it from
there. Or else I'd have to download the update I guess, and I don't know
what I should do in that case. I mean, where do I find and where do I
save the update, since my medium is a CD.

And (attn: guy named root) how do I list a partition empty? I would
think it's already empty, I just created it
