Hi There, Where can I download the Mandrake packages for LaTex? I am planning to use it with all my paper work afterwards. If anyone can tell me where to find a tutorial about install LaTex it should be very great. By the way, Can anyone compare it with word processor such as KWORD? Many thanks. Re: [newbie] LaTex
Many thanks, John. I will go to check the CDs. The reason I wanna use LaTex is most scientific publishings have LaTex template. Once I created a pdf file edited using Kword. It looks very ugly because of the lack of fonts libraries(I guess). This is another reason I gonna try LaTex. Thanks again. Bests, QingHua Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Re: [newbie] Linux behind proxy
If you use Mozilla, go to Edit-Preferences, and within the popup window of Preferences, click Advanced, then you will find option proxies among advanced options. Click it. Other web browser should be more or less the same. - Original Message - From: cdrack [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, December 03, 2003 3:21 PM Subject: [newbie] Linux behind proxy Hi people, i have installed Mandrake 9.2 and i need to use the internet access over the network. Re: [newbie] installlazione K3B 0.10
You can directly download the binary version of K3B 0.10 for Mandrake 9.1. I did this a month ago. Grazie! Re: [newbie] cd burning fails
Many thanks for your response. The problem is, the burning process was very smooth. There was no error taking place, I think. Did you finalize the CD? If you created a multisession CD and did not finalize the volume, you will NOT be able to mount the CD since the Lead In and Lead Out as well as TOC have not been written to the disk yet. This is my first time to burn something with MDK. I did not find any message about finalize the CD. K3B reported the burning is completed and I quitted it. I just discarded the k3b project which the system (k3b) asked to save. That's what I did. By the way, I only want to burn photos as a data cd. You might want to give us a little more info about exactly what kind of errors you are getting. With MDK (8.2 9.1), it says can not access /mnt/cdrom. With Win98, it says D:/ is not accessable, the drive is not ready. The CD was really burned since when I tried to burn it again the cd writer found it not empty. Bests, Q.H. Re: [newbie] Fw: help please, hard disk lost!
Simple procedure and don't laugh. Take out disk and put in plastic bag and seal. Put in freezer for several hours (at least 2) then put back in system and backup. Many thanks for your solution, Tony. I hope it can be used as the last magic stone. Bests, Qinghua Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com

Re: [newbie] Could someone please explain Segmentation Fault
I have a couple of programs that will either not run, or, after a while shut down giving the error Segmentation Fault I would mostly just want to know what exactly a Segmentation Fault is... Just off the top of my head it seems like a memory issue? All this Segmentation Fault problem I met when programming is memory issue, just like you said. Usually it concerns memory corruption in your programs, such as: free memory (e.g. pointers) not existing anymore; out of array bounds; The latter is easy to check out. In case of the former, you can set a macro MALLOC_CHECK_=1 then your system will check all the function calls of memory allocation and free in your program automatically and report the status of those operations. At this moment you can find out what's g on. HTH, QingHua Wang Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com

Hi there, I don't know whether this is a discussed problem here. My laptop suffers from strange network slow down recently. The switch shows my network card is a 100 MB one but when I download something the bandwidth is about several hundreds bytes per second, while other computer in the same lab around 10 KB/s. My laptop worked well weeks ago. I install a Madrake 8.1 within my laptop. How could I fix it? Many thanks. Regards, QingHua.
Re: [newbie] Fwd: Dual Boot?
I have found something interesting in the FAQs of Ranish Partition Manager. It says, 18. What about resizing of NTFS partitions? Unfortunately, there are no free utilities yet to do this. So you need to go for commercial/shareware utilities. Bootit Next Generation: http://www.terabyteunlimited.com Partition Magic:http://www.powerquest.com .
