RE: [newbie] [OT] Just tried kmail!
Interesting, I've never even thought of doing that I have a download directory in my Kpanel, so I usually just wait until I surf to something I like, open the download directory (which starts a new window) and drag the link / FTP icon across to it... Thats what I love about Linux...there's so may different ways of doing things :) On Wed, 20 Oct 1999, you wrote: I have, after much trial and error, figured out how to use kfm for ftp. I open up the tree view and drag the file I want from the file view window onto the directory in the tree I want to place it in. It works for me! Hope this helps. I'd never have any need to go back to Windoze at all. Just thought I'd let you know, you have made a convert of at least me. Glad you like it! :-) I've been corresponding with the current author of KDE and he seems to have a few good ideas on how to keep it updated and add some "bugfixes." As for the KFM window, I've never successfully used it for FTP, but I've read others have, so keep trying... :-) I think the trick is to make two KFM windows and drag -n- drop the file from one to the other. :-) That's too much trouble for me, so I'll just open up a Konsole window and use NCFTP. :-) John

I have been reading about Magellan on another mail board and I appreciate the opportunity to get a closer look at it. I suppose it's possible that when KDE 2.0 comes out, k-mail will be dropped altogether. Magellan looks really slick and very complete, moreso perhaps than an Outlook or Eudora Pro. Until then, k-mail does OK for me. Thanks, Mike Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://webmail.netscape.com.

Set it up with the right info (try 180 or 300 seconds) and every few minutes it will check your POP server. You can set it to use a sound signal (don't let the visual launch, it's an interruption :o( ). When mail arrives, click on the little tray on the panel, and it will launch k-mail and retrieve your mail for you.
