[newbie] cddb on KSCD ML 9.1 Beta 3

2003-02-10 Thread Derek Jennings
Is the cddb CD Database Lookup working for anyone with KSCD on ML 9.1 Beta3?

It looks broken to me but I wanted to confirm it before I report it as a bug.

On my system I get database lookup timeouts.
(The default path to the local database is also a PITA since it points to a
directory the user does not have write permission for)

(If you check it out make sure you use a CD that is not already in the local
database.)

Say, Derek, do you have a dialup modem, and if so have you got a kppp.

I don't seem to have it, nor pppd either, and as far as I can see it aint
on the discs either.

I get told ppp is needed by kppp so what installs ppp then ?

[newbie] CDDB access from XMMS?

2002-07-22 Thread Terry Sheltra

Ok, now for a simple question from me .. :-)

Is XMMS able to get CD track info from the CDDB databases on the web? If so,
how do I configure it to? Do I need a plugin?

Thanks!

Sure can
Right click on xmms OptionsPreferences
Thre is a choice of two CD player plugins
Cd Audio Player (for use with an analogue cable)
and Audio CD Reader (for digital playing through IDE. You need the
xmms-cdresd plugin_

Whichever plugin is enabled just highlight it and select 'Configure'

While you are there play with the visualisation plugins. They are nice...

Thanks Derek and Sevatio for helping me. XMMS looks MUCH better when it shows
the CD title and track info as opposed to Track #1, Track #2, etc

In case anyone is interested, I've found a command line program that will
access CDDB while ripping CDs...its called rip, and you can get it at
rip.sourceforge.net.

I wrote code that works. I didn't test it, but the discussion is closed. It
might have syntactic problems, but it does work. Better than any kernel
extension ever would. End of story. -- Linus Torvalds

I've had great success with making music CDs with Gtoaster and the only
question I have is how to create a file list with the songs on the the Cd so
the cd player shows the listing of the songs...any ideas?
