[newbie] Can't install packages using CD writer.

2003-07-20 Thread Rana D'Costa
I've Mandrake Linux 9.1 as my OS. I want to install packages using my CD
writer(as rpmdrake 9.1 doesn't give any other choice) which is /mnt/cdrom.
After executing the command 'mount', I got the following information about
my CD writer:

none on /mnt/cdrom type supermount (ro, dev=/dev/scd0,
fs=auto,--,iocharset=iso 885
9-1, codepage = 850, umask=0)

My CD writer is ATAPI Hewlett Packard Plus 8100 series. Now I wanna mount my
cd writer before installing packages using rpmdrake. I tried:

mount /dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom

also:

mount /mnt/cdrom

and I also tried:

mount /dev/scd0

In all of these above stated cases my system freezes and mouse or keyboard
doesn't work. I also tried without mounting the device but still have the
problem.

Can anyone tell me how I can fix this problem?

Thanks.

I'd be curious as to what your /etc/lilo.conf looks like...

well, a 'workaround' is to copy the contents of the installation CDs to
/usr/src/mdkcd1, etc. then change the path in the MCC to your HD instead
of the CDs.

this is not a solution, obviously, you should not experience this
problem.

try in a terminal as root:

urpmi drakwizard

and report back! schnell! raus!
