[newbie] Can't shutdown (locks at IPVS)

2001-11-29 Thread Mr. E.

I can't get my system to shutdown completely.

it started after I installed the Nvidia rpm's from Mandrakeuser.org.

When I log out from KDE, I'm at a console prompt. Then I issue Shutdown now
command.

I get a graphic showing me all these processes being shut down.

Then it stops at unloading (or clearing) IPVS .

I have to an Alt-PrintScrn R-S-E-I-U to shutdown.

Any suggestions on what could be going on.

(I followed instructions for installing NVida drivers - everything checks
out in the XF86Config-4 file)

[newbie] Can't shutdown

2000-04-14 Thread Glen M. Chambers

Hi all,

This seems a strange problem but whenever I'm logged into LINUX as a user I
can't shutdown, i..e go into a terminal - says no command. But if I log in as
root, I can.

Is this right? :(

Glen

yes it is.

what i do is exit from xwindows as the user
then at the user prompt "su", then "shutdown" normally. this saves you from
logging out and back in as root to shutdown.

Hiyer Glen
Yes this is right you need to be logged in as root to shutdown.

If you are logged in as a user try typing "su" without the parenthesis it will
ask you for your root password and then you can shutdown.

Well that's how I would do it.

you don't have to exit from xwindows first to shutdown. just use the logout
button under the kde or gnome button on the panel.
