You have to check the Eudora setting for receiving, and enter that into the POP area of KMail. Perhaps there is something special in either Eudora or KMail, but I doubt that. I have used both before switching to Sylpheed, and the settings for POP3 mail in both were the same. [newbie] Configuring K-Mail
Hello, Thank you Walter and Lance for the time of a reply. There may have been a few others to be so kind as to reply, but my Eudora sneezed y'day so I'm not sure :) Anyways, I am in k-mail,using the exact settings that work in Eudora. The problem is recieving mail only as I am able to send. So this tells me the prob is in the SMPT only, not the pop. Am I correct in this aassumption? I'm wondering if there is an issue in Lincnfig somewhere? So far,for the most part, my fiddling has indeed been in k-mail itself.Failure here is what led me to go into root and etc. Well,again...thank you all for your time.Onward I go :)G'day everyone.

Rather than use the KDE Control Panel, try entering your Kmail settings from the Confirugre... menu (under Settings on the KMail menubar). To elaborate a bit on Jay's information: When you configure your POP settings from KMail, remember that "Name" means the name you give this account so you can identify it (you can have multiple accounts). In the case of the account I'm using now i chose the obvious-if-not-especially-clever moniker Earthlink Mail. "Login" is your account name on the ISP's mailserver, which for me is wluffman (not [EMAIL PROTECTED]). "Password" is the password you use to log onto the mail server -- this may or may not be the same as the password you use to log onto the ISP itself. "Host" is the POP server's name, which for me is mail.earthlink.net. Unless your ISP tells you otherwise, just use KMail's defail port number. As for server names, most POP servers use something like pop.yourserver.net and most SMTP servers use something like smtp.yourserver.net. But "pop" and "smtp" are not universal names. For example, Earthlink uses a single server, mai.earthlink.net, for both incoming and outgoing mail even though its uses the POP and SMTP protocols. If you aren't certain of the names your ISP uses for its servers, check the documentation you got when you signed up or call the ISP's helpdesk. -- Walter Luffman, [EMAIL PROTECTED]Medina, TN USA Diabetics are just sweet people (Type 2 5/99, d/e/m/motorcycle) "Sage", purple 1998 Honda VT1100C Shadow Spirit

Each user has their own separate mail settings. NEVER USE ROOT UNLESS YOU ARE DOING ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS!!! Did you enter the pop host correctly. It may be pop."ISP mail server".com/net. If all else fails call your ISP for the correct settings, they can provide them for you. -- Jay ~May the enemies of Ireland never meet a friend~ http://www.mrsnooky.com http://www.celtic.free
[newbie] Configuring K-Mail
Hi Folks, I use this list as a last resort, preferring to struggle in solitude, hopefully learning more in the process. Ok..I'm in root, goto the control center...work my way down to the e-mail section.Bring up the settings tab, enter my personel info, then the smtp server(I can send, just can't receive). Click "new" to enter the pop address(called incoming host). I know this info is correct because I copied it from eudora(in the windoze section). Thing is..I get the message"unknown host" giving out the pop info. I've tried rebooting between entries, closing then re-opening..a bit lost for a moment. I tried to do this while not in root but the results are the same. What am I missing here ? I think I have got the right idea, just the wrong place...I think :) Thank you all very much for your time. I feel like I might be a shady character posting to a linux list on a 98se machine :)Hava great week everyone. Lee
