[newbie] Kernel version
Hi all I've googled, looked through the how-to's, Twiki'd FAQ'd, and everywhere else I can think of. There are hundreds of pages of help for upgrading the kernel. Most of it incomprehensible:) But I cannot find how to tell what version I currently have. Anybody TIA Shaz Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com

You can search the archives of the cooker ML, or the linux-kernel ML for better explainations. Seems what was called kernel-headers were actually glibc headers all along. kernel-source contains the actual kernel headers. By completely integrating the headers into glibc, they don't need to be updated unless glibc is, and are not as dependent on kernel version. Before I move to 9.1 there is something I have never understood on 9.0 and previous releases, I would be grateful for an explanation. I have installed :- kernel-source 2.4.19-16mdk kernel-headers 2.4.18-41mdk Why the different version numbers and what are the implications? -- TIA Pete ArdnamurchanScotland Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? [newbie] Kernel Version Error @ bootup
Hi, When I boot my Mandrake Linux computer it gives me an error message that says something like incorrect kernel version in /boot/system.map. It says that when it starts to start the system services like sendmail and linuxconf. Then when I try to run sndconfig to configure my sound card it says that my kernel does not support sound. Also i noticed that the vmlinuz file has a different version number then the kernel version number. I have tried reinstalling linux and it still gives me the same error message when I boot up the computer.I also upgraded to Mandrake Linux 6.1. Also how do I setup a welcome message when someone telnets into my computer?
