Actually I did what you say right away this afternoon, but haven't got any chance to reboot my notebook until tonight just now. No speaker icon on systray though because I turned off Kmix. You can still have the kmix speaker icon - but it will only work for some kinds of sound. For other things it won't seem to make any difference. I can't remember which bits work and which don't, but changing things in aumix will deal with it if you hit a problem.
