Re: [newbie] LILO hangs at LI
If I remember correctly this is a symptom of LILO when you're beyond the 1024 cylinder limitation on your HDD. Try setting the system up with a small /boot partition when you install Linux. 15MB is plenty big enough. See if that helps. -- Mark Larry is NOT a cucumber...he's a stinkin pickle... WITH WARTS! registered linux user # 182496 =/\= PINE 4.21 =/\= ** On Tue, 7 Nov 2000 Henningsen had this to say! I must log into Linux from a floppy because LILO hangs after printing LI. I read the manual and found that this indicates an error condition at a certain point, but the suggestions about what to do about it went right over my head. Any suggestions what I could try in concrete terms? Peter Henningsen
[newbie] LILO hangs
I'm having hard disk problems and for reasons that are too lengthy to explain I need to completely remove both Windows and Linux from my system. I've reformatted my second drive where Linux was installed, but when I reboot, LILO tries to come up then hangs with just the first two letters LI on the screen. How can I remove whatever is causing LILO to start? Thank you for any help you can give. Joe Bourque
RE: [newbie] LILO hangs
Boot with a DOS FLoppy and perform fdisk /mbr this will remove LILO -Original Message-From: Joseph Bourque [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]Sent: Sunday, October 15, 2000 1:32 PMTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]Subject: [newbie] LILO hangs I'm having hard disk problems and for reasons that are too lengthy to explain I need to completely remove both Windows and Linux from my system. RE: [newbie] LILO hangs
Boot from your windows startup floppy and then at the A: prompt, type SYSTEM. this will overwrite the MBR on your hard disk, by transferring the system files from the floppy to hard disk. This is NOT like formatting your hard drive, so all your files will be intact.
