[newbie] Laptop screen shifted

2002-11-04 Thread Flux
Has anyone thought of anything else I can try with this laptop? As far as I know, I'm
using the latest drivers with
XFree86 4.xx and I can't figure it out. Again, the last install of ML9.0 on this very
laptop did not have the
problem, but now it pops up again. I've already reinstalled ML9.0 five times now, and
each time the problem exists.

What on earth could I be missing?

I had problems with MDK 9.0/Xfree86 4.2.x on my desktop because of the S3
Savage 2000 video card. When I reloaded a fresh install to allow for
multi-booting into XP Pro, I elected to install XFree86 3.x.x instead. Ever
since, I have none of the original problems that I had with the newer
server.

Outside of changing the screen frequency to something lower and/or reducing
color depthdifferent drivers or a different server would be the only
things that comes to mind. If my understanding is correct, the older server
has better support for some video cards and monitors. I would try it if you
have exhausted all other possibilities.

Can't offer you anything better...sorry.

Well, I've never had a laptop, so I've always been able to adjust the
screen with my monitors buttons. But, I believe 'xvidtune' will do what
you need to do. See 'man xvidtune'.
