Re: [newbie] Linux4Win - never again

2000-09-06 Thread Goldenpi

Windows is a perfect moron system. As long as they stay away from the drives
and dont install anything, there isn't much that they can destroy.

Linux is faster, cheaper, uses less memory etc. But it needs someone who is
able to maintain it.

well if you have windows which i do i recomend chucking linux4win because it
hogs too much space and operation just sucks, i reinstalled my mandrake 7.1
using the automatic install and it runs great except for the window sizing,
not sure why though

Installed 7.1 using NT 4 in a dual boot setup everything worked fine except
for Winmodem...Changed modem to a 28800 sportster now works great.

I downloaded Mandrake 7.1 yesterday, burned a cd and just (4 hours ago)
tried to install Linux 4 Windows... Setup crashed and after that I wasn't
able to boot Windows or Linux. After four hours of struggling I finally got
Mandrake uninstalled (the uninstall programme didn't work from DOS) and
Windows back to normal.

That was a bit frightening experience and I really can't recommend
Linux4Win after this.

 Anyone had better luck?

P.S. I'm using Win95 by the way. Anyone tried with 98 or 2000?

I didn't have the same experience, but i thought It was very slow. It also limits the
number of packages you can install. I believe it has a 1GB limit. Better off Dual
booting.

Re: [newbie] Linux4Win - never again

2000-08-31 Thread CastleKidd

I didnt like the linux4win because i thought it was really hard to play with
the kernal, i didnt really understand the different ways. I think it is much
better to just repartition your drive or even go out and buy a small 5 gigger
or somthing. Im runing mandrake 7.1 on a 4 gig drive with 98 on a 10. I wish
I could switch that around but I havnt been able to get all the corel
software for linux, and it sucks up all my space on my 10. Let lilo do the
booting and forget the linux4win for now. Maybe in the future...

PS. If you are like me you love to tweak with windoze ini files and have to
reinstall windwos once a month. If you use linux4win all your information is
lost when you reinstall windoze by what i understand.
