Here are the locations you may try for what you may need for the
LinModems/WinModems or whatever they are called.

Thanks for the info. I will need all the help you have to offer.
 I'm still
working on the modem cos (1) I do not have the manual for it anymore
 and am
not sure if it is a Winmodem (which I am guessing it is) and (2) I'm
 a Linux
newbie but am willing to face the challenges Linux has to offer.

Linux claims it is not supporting WinModems nor ever will. Well I
 have
some software that is called ZModem in a zip file format that is
 called a
LinModem (WinModem type) that is supposed to be for that WinModem.
  Have
not installed it just yet, still attempting to learn more about
Linux/Mandrake v7.0. There are a large number of thingys we have
 to know
to use Linux efficiently, if you are a HACKER or a Programmer this
 is
easy as falling off the "Ole' Log" but if you are like me, we have
 to
read, read, read, read and when you think you have finished you
 have to
  read some more.

I do not remember where I was told to go to find this, it may have
 been
on the PCTEL website. Will check and find if there is a place in
 the
README file that gives any clues.

My problem: I can't seem to get my modem to work. I

In Windoze, my modem shows up on COM 5 IRQ 11 and
io=0x108.
Can someone please help me solve this problem?

COM 5??? There should only be 4 com ports unless you manually created them.

Re: [newbie] Modem not detected

2000-03-17 Thread jero

In case your modem ISN"T a winmodemas far as I know...COM ports
don't go any higher
then 4 in Linux. Is it a Plug and Play? (I had trouble with my US
Robitics 56K Pnp modem till
I got PNP off) Can you manually hardware your modem to use either COM 1,
2, 3, or 4?
