[newbie] Mozilla fonts

Greetings, I've noticed that Mozilla ignores the KDE system font settings - it apparently uses its own font settings. The fonts used to display messages are easily specified in the Mozilla preferences, but how do I make Mozilla use the same fonts used by KDE for menus and other stuff? In Kmail I can type accented characters, for example , , or . Can mozilla be set up to accept such keyboard entries? I tried changing the character set to Unicode in preferences but it did not help. Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com
Re: [newbie] Mozilla Fonts
Hi! I installed the three rpms referred below. The mozilla fonts were installed successful. But Drackfont rpm package give me the same error: Missing libgtkmdk and the gtk+mdk packages. I am starting with KDE. Do I need to start with GNOME? With find file I did not find the libgtkmdk. Or do I need to download more rpms? (Maybe updated rpms) Thanks in advance Pedro -- You might just install the following three rpms from the first Mandrake 7.0 cd: gtk+-1.2.6-6mdk.i586.rpm gtk+-devel-1.2.6-6mdk.i586.rpm gtk-engines-0.8-1mdk.i586.rpm When I installed Mandrake I selected GNOME as my default environment. Your mileage may vary if you went for KDE. gtk is the basis of GNOME. Someone else may have a better suggestion though. Re: [newbie] Mozilla Fonts
Thanks for your answer, but did not work ;) I made the download, from ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/MandrakeCooker/cooker/Mandrake/RPMS of the package gtk+mdk-0.1.3-1mdk.i586rpm and, after install it, I made the installation of the package drakfont-0.40-14mdk.i586.rpm Now I have all the packages installed ok. Pedro From: p.b.burton Subject: Re: [newbie] Mozilla Fonts Date: Tue, 04 Jul 2000 07:29:56 -0700 Try # rpm --rebuilddb I never bothered trying to install drakfonts. That's because I noticed when I installed Mandrake, that it was already installing truetype on the system. I am not an expert but just suggest trying to rebuild the rpm database after installing those packages. Phil On Tue, 4 Jul 2000, Pedro _ wrote: Hi! I installed the three rpms referred below. Hi all, I downloaded the mozilla-font...rpm from rpmfind.net, as suggested. But alas, kpackage said that query of the mozilla...rpm package failed. Also rpm from a prompt did not want to do anything but complain. Any clues, tips or hints? And yes, I did run things as root! I followed a link posted here and downloaded the Mozilla fonts from the Mandrake cooker ftp. They installed easily and ... wow, Netscape is not so butt-ugly anymore! Thanks! Phil
Re: [newbie] Mozilla Fonts
I tried Mozilla Fonts with Netscape. They wern't that bad, but on some sites they still left something to be desired. I found the best way to get decent fonts was to install the TrueType fonts commonly used in WinDOS (Arial, Times New Roman, Courier New, etc.) and set Netscape to use those. I originally installed them in Mandrake 7.0, which required some fiddling around with configuration files. In Mandrake 7.1, however, DrakFont makes installing fonts exceptionally easy. The hardest part is actually getting these fonts in the first place. If you already have Windoze installed (like I do), then just copy them from your Fonts directory. If you don't, then you either have to copy them from someone else with WinDOS (is this legal if you don't own a copy of Windoze?) or find a way to extract the CAB files on the Windoze CD or discs. I don't think there are currently any Linux programmes that can do this, so you may have to use good ol' DOS. I tried to install Drakfont but I need to find the other package to install it successfully. It is looking for the libgtkmdk and the gtk+mdk packages. Can I just install them with the force option? On Thu, 29 Jun 2000, you wrote: Hi! I have Mandrake 7.02 and I am disapointed with fonts of Netscape. Pages do not look the same... Where are the "Windows" fonts, like arial, verdana, etc... ? Can we add more fonts to Netscape? How? On any 'cooker' ftp site such as: ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/MandrakeCooker/cooker/Mandrake/RPMS/ ...or any '7.1' site ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/Mandrake/7.1/Mandrake/RPMS/ you'll find 'drakfontrpm' which installs your windows TT fonts for all X apps including Netscape. NS still looks like heck, so also get the 'mozilla-fontsrpm' which installs some fonts for NS that look a lot better. -- ~~ Tom Brinkman[EMAIL PROTECTED] From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [newbie] Mozilla Fonts Date: Sun, 2 Jul 2000 18:21:21 -0400 (EDT) Been looking for these fonts myself but never saw the link to them come through. [newbie] Mozilla Fonts in Netscape
Something weird is going on here. I downloaded the Mozilla fonts for Netscape and followed the instructions for installing them per www.mandrakeuser.org. The next time I start Netscape I can see the Mozilla fonts and everything is wonderful. The problem is, the next time I log back in I don't have the Mozilla fonts. They're not listed, I can't select them, and the only way I can get them back is by doing another xset fp+. Any ideas on how I can get these fonts to permanently stick? -Necro
