RE: [newbie] No sound for NeoMagic 256AV

2001-07-04 Thread Adams, Jamie

OK, i found the sndconfig package and installed it. But it didnt work
anyway, it said i didnt have a kernel with 'modular sound' enabled. How
would go about enabling this in the kernel?

Cheers

Is the soundcore module loaded ( '/sbin/lsmod' ) ?

If not, as root, what does 'modprobe soundcore' report ?

Hi, you can run sndconfig as root to set up your card.

 David,

Are you sure the Neomagic 256AV is a *sound* card? The same card in my
ThinkPad is for *video*, and my sound card is an ESS Solo
 something-or-other.

 Dave

I owned a acer laptop. it has a neomagic video card, and ess sound card.
the mandrake can detect the sound card, but no sound coming out from the
speaker. the msg says that there is no sound card to be found, strange!
anyone ever encounter this. im using mandrake 8, before this i used
mandrake 7.2 and my sound card work well. but since i upgraded my comp to
mandrake 8.0, my comp in mute mode now. :(

ok thanks.

[newbie] No sound for NeoMagic 256AV

2001-07-02 Thread David L. Dufeau

I've just installed Mandrake 8.0 on my Dell Inspiron 3500 Laptop,
but have not had any success with sound. Is the NeoMagic 256AV (MagicWave
3DX) sound card supported? I was led to believe that it was
especiallly since numerous sources online indicated that the 2.4.x kernel
supported it. HardDrake recognized the card, but it will not
run...startup indicates some errors, but the're reported on the screen too
quickly for me to see.

Is there a module in Mandrake 8.0 somewhere (I heard that a module nm256
exists). How does one install this. Failing that, can someone recommend
the most painfree work around (ALSA, OSSFree, etc)???

thanks,

-dave
