What's the "Open a Web Page" you refer to?

Todd

Actually, its "Open a Web Location" under the "File" heading. I have it set to
"Open in a New Navigator Tab". I like the feature as you have a pull down for
commonly used web pages like "Slashdot". I think the implementation of tabs
is better done in Mozilla than in Phoenix.
David

You can also access that functionality by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+L.

Right, but you have to go into prefs to set it up that way; Phoenix has
it that way out of the box. Pretty silly reason, huh? :)

You can have both in Mozilla - >Navigator > Tabbed browsing > Load links in
the background AND Open tabs instead of windows for Middle-click or
control-click of links in a Web page

There's also Control+Enter in the Location bar, for tabs.

That's cool, I didn't realize Moz had that. I always use the
keyboard--Control + t to open a new tab, then you can use the drop-down
in the address bar of the new tab.

I like Phoenix because its default config suits me best--I like a middle
click to open new tabs, and I want them to load in the background.

Also, you can group bookmarks in folders, then open them all in tabs. This
is earns points for extra-cool, IMO.

Also, there are some cool themes :)

I did the trick of uninstalling.
Phoenix did not like cleaning after itselt and left the processes open.
I need to give them more time for developing and testing before it is worth using

I've noticed the same thing with open sessions, so I made sure that nothing

I've noticed that trying to launch Phoenix when a Mozilla

Not sure if this is the problem or not but they mentioned in the release
notes not to install on an exsiting directory or a mozilla directory.
I put mine in /usr/lib/phoenix and mozilla in /usr/lib/mozilla

Ok, I installed Phoenix to try it out and got everything working. I have been
using it for a week or so to get use to it.
I just tried to run Mozilla (from the desktop, user command line, root, and

Phoenix has its own set of directories. Its as if the mozilla executable was
replaced by Phoenix.
I know that Phoenix uses the mozilla engine.

Thanks for the response.

I had copied the pref.js to user.js and added my changes to it. In an effort
to try something, I went back and removed the duplicate stuff and changed the
header from #mozilla preferences to #user prefs and it started to work. I
don't really know which change fixed it. Added a couple of other items to
speed it up and stop pop-ups. Pretty neat.

I have installed Phoenix, got java, realplayer and plugger, etc working.
I went to the Phoenix help page and found several tips and tricks that I
wanted to implement. I created a user.js file in the location specified and
made the changes that I wanted. However, Phoenix does not appear to see the
user.js file. I tried to change the pref.js file but it gets recreated.
Is there something else that I should do so that Phoenix sees the user.js
file?

Installing the plugin with the --nodeps fixed it.

The problem is that Phoenix is now expecting to see an RPM version
of RealPlayer installed. (The RPM made also by Texstar) If this is your only

Do you have realplayer installed, and are trying to install the
plugin? Or, is it the actual player you're trying to get installed?
I tried installing Tex's Phoenix rpm, and it brought up some
dependencies that were required before it would install. It said I
needed the following: Xft, fontconfig, libfontconfig.so.1, &
libXft.so.2. I didn't bother. I am still using the tar "install" of

your browsers.works for me anyway. I didn't have to install any
separate plugins. I'm using Tex's realplayer. Works in all my
browsers (except Phoenix, I would likely have to copy the plugger
plugin to phoenix's plugin folder to get it to work).

I have installed Phoenix and in the process installed RealPlayer and Java.
If I try to install the realplayer rpm for Phoenix it tells me it can't
install because I need realplayer. How do I make the connection so that
Phoenix knows that realplayer is installed. (The same goes for Mozilla)

Fonts seem to be a problem resizing, relizing it is in developement I am
anxious to see how the mail works. It does seem faster loading itself but I
see no difference in speed on browsing as compared to Konqueror.
However Konqueror can't load some pages with different links, it leaves some
images blank. So, I will hold off judgement and hope Phoenix is the right
replacement for my tastes. Choices are wonderful.

That's exactly the good part of Tex's RPMS. That Phoenix build has XFT enabed,
and fonts look great!

see ya.

Hey, super! Tex has rpms for Phoenix 0.5, and plugins too! Way to go Tex.

I've been running the tar package from Mozilla.org, which you don't really install,
just run.
Will the rpm package possibly work better? Fonts are not top grade with the package
I'm running now. That's about the only complaint I have though.

Phoenix 0.5 is great.I didnt like Opera cause the toolbar takes up too much
space on the screen and it doesn't render webpages the same as Mozilla based
browsers.Phoenix has become my browser of choice.Awesome.

[newbie] Phoenix 0.5

2002-12-29 Thread Angus Auld
Greetings, I just wanted to pass along my observations
of the latest Phoenix 0.5 releasevery nice!
I'm using it now in fact.

I'm an Opera enthusiast, but this one is pretty fast
and light. I don't think it is any faster than Opera,
but it seems a lot faster than Mozilla or Konq.
And, it's open sourceand, there are no
ads..and, it has tabs too ;-)

I have java and flash working w/o any difficulty. This one looks like a winner.

Just my observations.
