[newbie] Problems With Linux4Win on a Laptop
Linux4Win sounded like the perfect technology to use to play with Linux on my laptop. The laptop uses the Chips and Technologies 6 video chipset and has an active matrix screen set to 800X600 resolution. I checked the Mandrake home page and the 6 is listed as supported under Mandrake 7. I began the Linux4Win installation process, I performed the pre-installation processes described in the demo spotlight on the Mandrake home page but when the graphical installer was supposed to start up it was impossible to see what was said on my screen. I could see a ghost of a penguin near the top of the screen but the bulk of the screen was completely black and unreadable. Does anyone know if there are any switches for Linux4Win that will force it to give me a text based installation manager up until the point that it lets me choose my X configuration with the CT6 controller? Obviously the simple graphics which should run on anything don't run on my laptop. Is there another way to approach the problem? -- Traci Collins, MA Professor of Computer Education Colorado Mountain College http://www.rof.net/wp/tcollins/traci.html
Re: [newbie] Problems With Linux4Win on a Laptop
The problem is that I loose the ability to see my screen before I have the opportunity to pick the expert mode. Drakx goes graphical before it lets you choose which of the modes you want. I need to be able to tell the lnx4win installation not to go graphical until after I have had that opportunity. It seems to be very prepackaged to work exactly one way, which is good, but I am hoping that Mandrake left in some switches to handle the exceptional cases. I can't find those switches documented if they exist. I'm hoping that I just missed the right document and that someone can point me toward it.
