You should be able to click on Services (the yellow star) and then
go to lan browser and then (if things are set up correctly) view
the other systems on the network.
On mine - I don't have a network, but strangely enough it tells
me that it can't connect to localhost. That of course is defined
elsewhere (/etc/hosts). I can of course ping localhost so some-
where there is a miscommunication between konqueror and the
services it uses to go to the LAN.
Konqueror does use a special notation lan:// to denote machines
on the local area network.

You can't connect to localhost unless the httpd is running.
su and try service -s (look for Apache). If it is running you should have
some httpd tasks running as well.
Browsing Windows networks with konqueror is not going to work unless LISa is
configured and running. To configure LISa open KDE Control Centre as ,
select NetworkLanBrowsing and then go through the setup wizard.
The LISa configuration will be saved as /etc/lisarc
Now you must configure LISa to start on boot. To do this edit /etc/rc.local
and at the end put the command
lisa -c /etc/lisarc
LISA will now run at boot and you will be able to browse using konqueror.
However Personally I do not use it, because I find Windows networks easier
to browse using komba2. To use Komba2 just install the komba2 rpm and start
it from
KmenuNetworkingOther
You should be able to immediately browse windows networks. To mount a share
just right click on it, enter the password, right click again and mount. It
will mount be default under ~/komba/hostname
