Anne; What? Are you crazy? Try a USB mouse when I just got
the touchpad working? (Grin!)

Actually, I'm planning on writing a second XF86Config-4
file, and a quick and dirty script file so 
that I can switch between the two, so that I can go from
one to the other easily whenever it's
convenient. 

I don't expect to switch very often, but it would be nice
to have the option.

Well, I managed to solve the only problem with my new laptop, and it was
too simple. 

Here's a tip, folks - never plug in a mouse when you're installing Linux
on a laptop that has a touchpad. That was my whole problem. Turns out
that touchpads are detected by Mandrake as a standard PS/2 mouse.

You don't need to install or compile any driver modules, just do a
normal install.

Sometimes the answer is something so simple, you'd never even consider
it. Having a USB or other secondary mouse connected when starting the
install, means that Mandrake defaukts to that mouse, and never even
considers the touchpad. Go Figure !

Guess I outsmarted myself!
