[newbie] Software Recommendations MDK 9.2

2004-03-15 Thread andrew . lundy
Hello people,

There is an abundance of software available for Linux, which is great, but I
don't have time to look through it all at the moment. So I was hoping you
could recommend me some of the best (or THE best) software for the following
things for MDK:

- Movie player.
- MP3 player. (including playlist feature)
- HTML editor / Web site construction software.
- Image creating/editing.
- FTP client.

Thanks.

MPlayer. Plays everything. No clunky GUI, but lots of cool features like
mousewheeling forward and backward, keyboard functions, etc. It Just Works (TM).

 - MP3 player. (including playlist feature)

Beep Media Player! Brand spankin' new and yummy RPM's available here:

...with many many thanks to Charles, the next Texstar!

 - HTML editor / Web site construction software.

Personally, I like SciTE, but it's not WYSIWYG and doesn't have 'wizards' or
anything for CSS and all that. It's just a beefed up text editor, I guess.

Heh, see my post above. I thought of that a split second after I hit 'send'.

Dammit, not the 'which is best text editor' thread again!! I've only been in
this a few years and I've seen it a thousand times already...

I'm pissed he didn't ask about WM's...no opportunity to point out, for example,
that KDE is developed by Maoists and uses baby seals as test subjects.

gftp is a gnome native? geez.. (luckily I didn't notice the 'g'). I didn't
like gnome the first time I saw it, but when I began using KDE, I love gftp
at first sight. It's very similar with w32's smartftp, simple and robust.
kbear yeah.. it's too intuitive :)
