[newbie] Sudden Logouts
hi, I haven't fixed my KDE 3.0.2 Sudden Logouts that is why Im switching temporarily to GNOME, the problem is, I find KDE more user friendly than GNOME for example in creating shorcuts to applications, I cant seem to figure out yet how to make one in GNOME without dragging from Nautilus, unlike in KDE where i just have to right click and voila, a create link to application menu. Switching between desktops sucks, just when i get used to KDE, that darn sudden logouts occur. is that a known bug? or am just one of the few lucky user to experience that? what's the latest stable version of GNOME? I read GNOME 2 is just on a beta version. HYH -- g2 Intelligence, acquired; Wisdom, inherent. RLU # 278414 Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com

Re: [newbie] Sudden Logouts of KDE
well I think it happens after 5 minutes of logging in. It only happens when KDE is idle and when I am logged in the Virtual Terminal (ctrl alt f1). In KDE 2.2.2, after log outs, the xwin restarts but with KDE 3.0.2, after that log out, the Xwin crashes, when I execute startx, it prompts for no window to start or something like that, so I had no choice but to reboot my system. ok, then do this: go into /tmp, find any file or directory containing X11, qt, kde, mcop, ksock or mcop in their names and delete them all. the same in ~/tmp for all of your users. ( you will probably have to do this from outside X ) and then see if it happens again. Yes I upgraded (more like degrade) my KDE 2.2.2 to KDE 3.0.2. If in case I find several tmp dirs, which should I delete? its safe to delete either right, but i was just wondering for a more specific location all of them are safe, all necesary files in a tmp folder get re-created when they are needed. you can go into all tmp's and erase everything you see. Thanks! np ;o) Damian -- Who is General Failure, and why is he reading my disk? Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com

I'm not sure how to update my KDE Desktop. yeah, I probably be googling first. - -- If I admit I was wrong, I am only saying I am wiser today than yesterday. shane Profile at: http://dmoz.org/profiles/shen.html Proud to be a DMOZ editor since 10-98 Mandrake Users Club Member http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/club/ Registered linux user #101606 http://counter.li.org/ -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE9NutmBwq+ZwvIN/oRAru+AJ0dJRyd6MSD62/gvDFMldNVULasIQCfZdwW IjhJkyOb2E+kJ+zS0cOCKIc= =RnYa -END PGP SIGNATURE- Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft?
