[newbie] Window Maker
Hello list I live in Greece so when i installed Mandrake 9.1 i chose Greek as language. When i run Gnome and KDE i saw that it had Menus and all in Greek. When i started Window Maker 0.8 (i think) it had the menu with symbols. Do you know what must i do? Do you suggest to me to install Mandrake 9.1 again with English? Thanks Kostas Dimitriou http://gasdim.topcities.com (it is only in Greek) Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com

I've noticed that many of the WM's borrow themes from each other (or someone just ports it over `cause they like the look). BTW, what are the little icons between Nutscrape's and the calander? I've seen lots of shots of BB users also utilizing them. Mike -- "Many loads of beer were brought. Mike From top to bottom, starting after the Calendar/Clock: 1. wmload - measures cpu load 2. wmapm - measures battery strength, battery time remaining, and shows if I am plugged in and charging the battery 3. wmsysmon, measures memory use, virtual memory/swap use, also has individual "leds" for each IRQ, which light up when they are in use If I remember correctly, I downloaded all of these either from the Window Maker home page, or else got a link from that page to somewhere else. That looks really nice! By the way, what functionality do you give up when you run KDE apps under WindowMaker? M. [newbie] Window Maker is interesting...
W Maker is kinda cool. I like how I can mess w/ different desktop environments, and all my stuff is saved. So, once I figure out how to run an app, my stuff is there waiting for me. I'll probably mess w/ W Maker and Xfce a little more, but KDE, IMHO is best for newbies still learning their way around. -Josh
[newbie] Window Maker Help
Ok, I got the Window Maker RPM to install. :) But how do I add it to the list at the Xwindows Log on prompt? I went into kde setup and added wmaker, and I have that as choice, but it just dumps me into Gnome when I choose that. Do I need to run something else? Or do I have to specify the whole path? -- Ty Mixon e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ICQ:26147713

I purchased both the Redhat 5.2 and Mandrake CD's along with a Contributed RPM's CD. Number one, are all the files I need for Windowmaker on any of these CD's? If so, can They should be. I don't recall whether Mandrake ships with WindowMaker (and I don't have my CD handy). Just find the .i386.rpm package for WindowMaker and type: rpm -Uvh package-name After it's installed, login as your normal user and edit ~/.xinitrc to read this: exec wmaker Then exit the editor and type: chmod +x ~/.xinitrc 'startx' should now bring you up with the WindowMaker window manager. anyone explain what I must do to install them? A download is not preferred since I have not yet established the internet connection. I installed Linux in the first place to see how much customization could be done to the desktop and I am not happy with the KDE environment. Any suggestions as to what desktop manager can give me the most customization would be greatly appreciated. I was also wondering if the ability to elimate the control bar, along with the taskbar, is possible. My main ambition is to just right click on the desktop to access any menu that I may need. Not sure about eliminating those items in KDE, since I've never tried. If you want configurability, you might give the GNOME project a try. Maybe pick up one of the RH6.0 CD's from CheapBytes (they're probably about $1.99), since none of the CD's you listed above contains a recent version of GNOME. But, if you go with WindowMaker, you'll lost the taskbar/panel/etc automatically. Sincerely, Philip Huff Philip Huff Technical Support Thomas Bros. Maps (800)899-6277 -- Steve Philp [EMAIL PROTECTED]
