Rather than remove all (-a) media, which usually means all the
CD sources, I type 'edit-' and then hit Tab. The CL will auto
complete to 'edit-urpm-sources.pl' Then hitting Enter will
start the Software Media Manager GUI. Here you can simply uncheck
sources to disable them. If you then want them back later, just
reverse the process. Quick an simple. Even quicker if you make
an alias for 'edit-urpm-sources.pl'.

Same scenario for adding mulitple sources. You can add a lot of
sources, but then use the Manager to en/unable them at will.
Makes switching mirrors very easy. The Manager also has a button
to select a media and then remove it, but I suggest just
disabling a source. You might want it back later ;) You can also
enable muliple sources for the same updates. urpmi will auto
switch mirrors, if a file or dependant file is missing on one
mirror, but present on another.

Almost a must for running cooker as playin musical chairs to
find a mirror that's up to date and reliable is always a moving
target. To a lesser extent the same is true for past and current
Mandrake versions and 3rd party sources. Mandrake relies on
donated mirror space, sysadmin, and bandwidth so we shouldn't
look a gift horse in the mouth in that respect ;)

It seems it's always Monday here in Edmonton Mark. g

Why not just open the terminal, su to become super user and copy and paste the

If you want to type the lines in manually you have to type _exactly_ what I
posted to use the sources I showed. That may not be a good idea since you
should probably pick a mirror closer to home for your installation. Besides
we don't really want everyone pulling from the same mirrors and there are

Well, except for this one (note the missing './' before hdlist.cz):

It's weird that you actually had to add that. I would have thought that I
would have caught the screw up myself. The URL should have been:

ftp://ftp.club-internet.fr/pub/linux/plf/mandrake/9.2/i586

Melissa,
Here's a cool trick:

-select the text you want to enter on the command line with your left mouse
button, then go to the xterm window you've got opened for the CML.
By middle clicking on the CML it will reproduce the selected text.

Saves a lot of over-typing and errors:)
Good luck,

As a relative newbie who is allergic to the command line, may I
recommend kgpg? This does all the gnupg management your would ever want
in a GUI.
Not tried kmail, but I *can* tell you that kgpg, Mozilla 1.5 + enigmail

all right?

First since I hate switching CDs:

hdlist.cz

urpmi.addmedia update_source
ftp://ftp.uninett.no/pub/unix/Linux/Mandrake/Mandrake/updates/9.2/RPMS with
../base/hdlist.cz

After that, and since you're using KDE as the desk-top manager:

urpmi kgpg enter

It's a KDE GUI control front end for GNuPG. It may make life a little easier.
There will be an icon added to the kicker (beside the clipboard) to control
things.

[newbie] gnupg

2003-07-21 Thread Inhabitant of Zion
Hi

Does anybody on here know how to set the default key server in gnupg and
how to then set the key server option to auto-key-retrieve.

If you could talk me through it assuming no prior knowledge other than that
I know how to use vi!

John

[newbie] gnupg problem

2003-06-02 Thread Josenildo Marques
I've found an excellent gnupg how-to here

http://www.mandrakesecure.net/en/docs/gpg.php

The thing is I was following the guidelines when I got stuck where it asks for
a name, a comment and an e-mail address. It doesn't take my name.

Real name: Josenildo Marques (Linux rules) [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Invalid character in name
Real name: Josenildo Marques (Linux rules) [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Invalid character in name
Real name: josenildo marques (linux rules) [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Invalid character in name
Real name:

Weird, is it not ?

TIA

Hello, Anne. Yes, here is the output.

You need a User-ID to identify your key; the software constructs the user id
from Real Name, Comment and Email Address in this form:
Heinrich Heine (Der Dichter) [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Real name: Josenildo Marques (Linux rules) [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Invalid character in name
Real name: Josenildo Marques (Linux rules) [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Invalid character in name
Real name: josenildo marques (linux rules) [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Invalid character in name

Invalid character in name

Well, my name is unusual, but i never thought a program wouldn't accept it !
:-)

Strange - and I notice they have the brackets in the example anyway.
Sorry, but I'm out of ideas.

It looks like you should just put your name in.
The example appears to be the constructed id, which has all three parts:

real name Josenildo Marques
comment linux rules
email address [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Enter Only your name Josenildo Marques at this stage.

When you generate a key a series of questions is asked, name, comment,
email add, location etc.
For some you must enter the info for others you can accept the default,
but for whichever the info has to be entered individually not as a
group.

If you would prefer to do this with a GUI you can install seahorse which
is in Contrib.
After launching, from the Key menu select New and then just fill-in the
boxes of the resulting pop-up.

[newbie] GnuPG

2001-04-16 Thread Jeremy Hughes

RPMDrake is telling me that GnuPG
is not installed right..
but i have used it fine in the past.. What is
wrong here.. It just crapped out on me for no reason.. I was trying to get
SAMBA to work I don't think that could have killed
RPMDrake??
