Which generic driver did you select? I'm having problems getting my
first-time Linux install to recognise my MS I.E. mouse at all, so any advice
would be appreciated!

I have the same mouse, and have had difficulty getting the scrolling
feature to
work. I chose generic mouse drivers during the install, and my mouse
works
fine except for scrolling. If you really need scrolling support, check
this
 out... http://www.linux.ie/beginners-linux-guide/intellimouse.html
 hope this helps...

It works with the PS/2 port, because that's what mouse I use. But someone else
just today mailed something about his USB intellimouse explorer not being
recognized. But as of yet, no one knows why. It should recognize USB mice, but
for some reason his isn't found. But if you use the PS/2 port, it will definitly
work. So you might try it with USB first, to see if it works for you.

Oh, it won't TOTALLY work, as the two side buttons do nothing in Linux, but the
two top ones, and the wheel all work.

First, I like double clicking to launch stuff but it seems that Mandrake 7
defaults to a single click to lanuch apps. Could someone tell me how to
change that so I have to double click to launch apps.

no idea, but it might help some other people if you say what Window manager you
are using (Gnome/KDE/etc)

Second, I have a microsoft intellimouse and the scroll wheel doesn't work
any ideas on how to enable that in Mandrake?

It should work pretty much automatically in Mandrake. Make sure you have
imwheel installed though. http://www.inria.fr/koala/colas/mouse-wheel-scroll/
has lots of information on scrolling, and has imwheel should you need it.
