Re: [newbie] free internet (Freewwweb is gone)

2000-08-09 Thread Michelle Schneider

For anyone that doesn't already know, Freewwweb is gone. I used
Freewwweb for several months. If you go to their website now, you're
told to download Juno Web to continue to have free internet.

Does anyone know of any other free isp's that are Linux friendly? I
tried 1 Nation Online (1nol.com), but I could never actually connect
(even with 5 local numbers to choose from).

Freewwweb no longer exists. They went out of business, and are now refering
thier customers to Juno (which uses a Windows only system).

Hi Kit,

I am also interested in getting to Internet in a less expensive way. I got your mail
from the Mandrake Newbie list. However when I tried to get into your webserver I get
the message below
Status : 504 Gateway Time-Out

Description : Unable to connect to origin Web server.

Note : If necessary, please contact your Systems
  Administrator for resolution.
Can you make the access possible to me. I need to d/ld the software you referred to as
being helpful to get ip/dns/gateway.

Thanks in advance

Bernardo

Hi, Bernadomy server doesn't run 24 hours a day...yet.
therefore, you'll have to email me...when you are online...and if I'm online then I
startup my server...
or usually I have it on ,when I'm online anyways. Perhaps if you had ICQ, it would be
better

Try installing Freei under Win 98 and use winipcfg to get the DNS. Then just
enter the DNS address in Linux. I heard that this does work, without the
banners =-) I haven't tried it because I have cable.

I saw it posted somewhere that you can run I believe "ipconfig" under
windows to get your DNS once you are connected to your free ip. Whether
this is legal and/or works for you I don't know.

Ip config will do that, and it's legal. The problem is that it's a
dynamic DNS - it changes each time you long on.

Here's a thought tho - see how they connect Windows to the Iway. If
it's just a Dial Up Networking connection, we can do that just as
easily. But many of them are ad driven, so it's proprietary software. :(
