At the time IBM developed their computer there were at least two
computers that were better (Apple Tandy). IBM used $'s to overwhelm
both. Just an example of the power of the almighty dollar.

If we're looking at scotch, I'd have to disagree regarding Glenfiddich
which tastes and smells of sick. I do have a fondness for the Madeira
cask conditioned version of Glenmorangie. No experience of the other
two. Can recommend Jura and Glenlivet though.

I'd still argue that Bushmills 12yr old single stands with the best of
them though.

I guess it's like favourite text editors - very much a personal thing.

programmable electronic computer in the modern accepted sense.
The computer was called Colossus and was used to break the highest
German teleprinter landline codes , used by the central german command .
It used thousands of thermodic valves as switching devices, and used punched
tape to run the codes. The task was a much harder than cracking the enigma
codes which by comparison were childs play. He built it in Bletchley Park
(station X) from about 1943 onwards and laid the foundation to computers
as we know them today.Indeed modern computers are just his device

It's a slow road to toe, but the tech world is changing. Don't need all
that fancy-dancy marketing if you've got an OS that's solid as a rock...

It would be rather nice if someone somewhere WOULD do some more
marketing of linux - even in a small way. I try my best to market it's
uses to my customers and to those that I end up meeting - every time a
customer comes here to the house they SEE it in action and freak out at
what I can do with it (whilst I'm fixing their Windown machines). I've
spray painted linux on the boot of my car, even - and have Redhat
stickers all over the back as well...

I have made quite a number of converts here. I have lost count quite a
while ago. In the small town that I live in, (population under 500) news
travels fast. I am the only person that I know of for about 20 miles around
that repairs or builds computers although the main business here is a small
machine shop that my wife and I own. Everyone that comes in the door here
with computer problems or asking about having me build them a computer gets
told about Mandrake Linux, Most of them end up test driving my machine and I
would estimate that well over half of them end up having me put Mandrake on
their machine , sometimes replaceing windoze and other times as a bual boot
setup. Like I said news around here travels fast. Now people are coming
around asking me about Mandrake. I even keep a old clunker 500 MHS With ML
10.0 installed around for a loaner computer for some of the folks that bring
their machine in for repair and can't do without a computer for a day or 2.
That has made a number of converts. At this point the little town that I
live in here in Arkansas may very well have a higher percentage of Mandrake
users than anywhere else in the US, word seems to be spreading to the
surrounding small towns fast. And people think hillbillies are dumb, at least
they know a far superior OS when they see one LOL. The guy that teh Gateway
burn in hell thread was all about used my loaner for a day and was insistant
that he would not use windoze ever again, in fact I was there while he told
that to several people from Gateway on the phone and then told them about how
much better ML was than win XP. All that after using Mandrake for just 24
hours.
