If so, disable it and see if that helps.
Also see if the system is installed for optimal use. Best to set it to more

Good luck!

I recently purchased an A-Bit mobo (KT7A) along with a 1.2GHz AMD and 512MB.
I performed an LM 8.0 install using the Recommended selection and at the
point near the end of the install when it configures XWindows the system
locks up hard. By which I mean the mouse ceases to respond, no keys work, I
can't switch to different consoles (Ctrl-Alt-Fn), etc. I thought maybe it
was the graphics card (S3 Trio3D/2X, a fairly new, low cost 3D
Graphics/video accelerator card), so I replaced it with a known working
card, to no avail. I then tried a known working PCI graphics card (name/mfg
escapes me at the moment) and experienced the same problem.

You don't need to check each time if you set up Outlook Express to
always use plain text for mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You do this
by adding this address to your OE address book, click on the Name tab
for this address, put a checkmark by Send E-mail using plain text
only. Once you set it up this way, OE will convert to plain text any
HTML message you try to send to this address (I think it alerts you
 first).

I haven't tried this out myself because I'm set up to send everything in
plain text all the time, but I know people who use this feature and they
 say it works as advertised.

Has anyone had a similar experience and found a solution? This is
  driving me nuts :-)

No I haven't had that problem in a long time. 'Bout all I can
think of is to try an expert install and choose an 'easy' resolution
like 640x480 or 800x600 at no more than 16bpp and without 3d accel. I
suspect your video card is the problem. If that's succesful, then once
your running you can use DrakConf to try higher resolutions and 3d
accel, but I wouldn't try to go over 16bpp with that card.

Long long ago I had to install RedHat 5.x that way, and I had a S3
Virge 4mb at the time. I could only get going using xconfigurator and
choosing 640x480 at 8bpp during install. Later I could up it to
800x600x16, still no 3d. Also, look for the KT7a FAQ on the Net. IIRC,
it has suggestions to work-around the hardware problem you're havin,
specially if your S3 is a PCI card.

Thanks for the plain text ;)
