Re: [newbie] Monitor and Video Card configuation problems...
When I installed 6.1 I don't have Xconfigurator. Or something didn't get loaded but I do have XF86Config and XF86Setup and when I upgraded to 3.3.5 and ran XF86Setup I had no problems with my SiS card (chips actually no video card here) except with a occasional cursor hickup.but, XF86Setup will work if you upgrade to 3.3.5 On Wed, 03 Nov 1999 06:17:56 + "1%warren" [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Hmmm Just ran Xconfigurator xf86config - xf86config gave me a bigtime crash as I didn't comment out the 16 bit VGA modes (HEE..) Xconfigurator *did* give me an option to custom configure my monitor (right at the top of the list),but Steve is right, it only gives you 4 options for hsync. works o.k. for me. Just don't choose an option higher than your monitor can do. I'd reccommend using Xconfigurator, rather than xf86config, SiS chipsets can't use XF86Setup -Warren. ___ Get the Internet just the way you want it. Re: [newbie] Monitor and Video Card configuation problems...
Have you tried Xconfigurator? XF86Config? (case sensitive I may have got that wrong eg: xf86config) N.B. XF86Setup will not work with SiS chips. Type "SiS" in the search window at: http://www.redhat.com this is a common prob they are a mine of imformation on it.. this is the third time I have answered a question on SiS chips tonight. I am sick of it. I am going to write a HOWTO. Could anyone with other imformation on the 6326 please mail/post to the list. specificly, I am interested on how it goes with X3.3.5 as I have heard it *might* be buggy (this could have been a reference to X3.3.4 that the person made by mistake though...) -Warren - Original Message - From: Gary Clark [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, November 02, 1999 5:08 AM Subject: [newbie] Monitor and Video Card configuation problems... Re: [newbie] Monitor and Video Card configuation problems...
Hello, Thank you for all the response on my Monitor configuration problems. I got a lot of response and would like to ask a couple more question. 1. I will try to run XF86Config or XF86Setup to try to configure my monitor setting manually. However, I don't know how to run them. After I boot Linux from LILO boot, a screen ask me to logon. Should I log on as root or user? After that, what do I have to type in to run XF86Config or XF86Setup? At the Linux show, after the installation, the computer reboot directly to window interface (Genome). How can I set up like that? 2. In case I need to upgrade to X3.3.5, what do I need to download, what files? How may I install it to my computer? I am so new to Unix/Linux that I don't understand the Linux system. Please help. --- Jesse Royall [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I don't know how to find the version that comes with Mandrake 6.1... but what i got is what looks like 3.3.3 or whatever. since I installed 3.3.5 its a totally different interface..I also keep getting a PAGE NOT FOUND when clicking on your link. Also, you'd be advised to type "linux 3" at the LILO prompt. This will put you into console mode. Log in as "root" with the root password and then type "XF86Setup" Then once you've got X configured, go edit /etc/inittab and change the line that says id:3:initdefault: to id:5:initdefault: John
