Roman Korcek wrote: Hey, Still, you can choose between a categorized and a flat view of packages during installation, can't you? *grin* to tell you the truth i dont know if i can switch to flat view during installation. is there such an option during the graphical installation? IIRC there is something like unfold whole tree, but I don't remember, either. :-( to find out when i get home and re-install my mandrake (maybe ill triple boot it with gentoo as i hear good remarks about it). Good luck! Roman In one of Mandrake's least ergonomic moments, the switch to flat list was chosen to be the little icon of 2 light blue arrows chasing each other at the bottom of the tree list. Well it actually came on the installation CD's, then again since I am new to linux that may not be what I am looking for and could explain why it doesn't work. When I did my install (clean). I choose expert mode and selected the option to install individual packages and one of them was wine. Which told me it was for emulating windows. figure this might be helpful to me as a beginner so I installed it and the man page for it. I have looked on http://winehq.com and they have a download section for the binaries and source. from what some people have said they might be on http://www.rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/ Sorry I can't be of more help, with locating the packages, but I would still appreciate the tips :) Thanks Mike -Original Message- From: daRcmaTTeR [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Saturday, May 04, 2002 6:01 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [newbie] OT over reacting On Fri, 3 May 2002 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I have installed Winex, but I just can't figure out how to get it to work, I am fairly new to Linux and still learning. Nah, don't feel bad - look up stupid/imbecile/idiot in just about any ole dictionary...you'll find a photo that bears a remarkable resemblance to yours truly! ;-) You know what I do whenever I get a new Mandrake distro? (well there are a lot of things BUT) I open the software (RPM) manager, go to flat list, and under the not installed part, I take the time to scroll down thru the list and see just what was -not- installed. Its pretty informative... even if it does take awhile. ;-) -- /\ DarkLord \/ Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com

I never have to reboot my Linux box, but I have to reboot any windoz box at least once a day. And the only reason I still use windoz is because I like to some games every now and then. If the damn game companies would port stuff to Linux I would get rid of windoz all together. Just my $.02 Have you tried Winex 2.0? Many of us swear by it now, and I can personally vouch for: Starcraft/Broodwars Diablo2/Lord of Destruction Jedi Knight 2 Baldurs Gate 2 Try it - dump Windog! I installed it when I installed the Linux OS on the machine. Normally, you just: mount /mnt/cdrom (or whatever yours is) cd /mnt/cdrom winex name of install program and it will do the rest... After installation you would just type in: winex executable filename I read the man page for wine and it didn't make much sense to me. I have also tried to read docs on the winehq.com website. Can you please send me some tips on how to get it working properly. I play these games regularly Starcraft/Broodwars Starcraft works great, even the update patches! Diablo2/Lord of Destruction Ditto here... Jedi Knight 2 Ditto again... Medal of Honor: Allied Assualt No idea about this game - I don't have it. Sorry. Quake III Unreal Tournement These last 2 games are available native to Linux (ported). I'd recommend getting these versions. Its what I did, and they work great! ;-) Hope this helps somewhat!
