I just start a new document, set the page format to envelope, type that addresses and print. That suits me for the very few envelopes I do print. I have not had any trouble with OO restarting itself. I had this problem under 8.2, first install, but when I re-installed 8.2 OO behaved perfectly. I've had a few other difficulties with MDK 9.0, browsers that suddenly quit communication to printer, Galeon freezing all the time, Software Updater has never worked, and a few other annoyances. I fixed the browsers be removing and reinstalling. I've not figured out Software Updater, it connects but won't download a thing from any connected server. I've none of those problems. I think the frustrating thing is that we don't understand what's going on. The fact that one person has a persistant problem while another with a very similar setup has none makes it very confusing. Oh, well, now I'm wandering far off topic. I don't have any other ideas for you on OO except to try the old Microsoft solution of remove and reinstall. I personally hate that approach as I want to know what's wrong and fix it directly. Me too. Ah well - learning experiences ;-) Anne Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Re: [newbie] Printing envelopes from Mandrake on a Deskjet
Both Star Office and Word Perfect8 can print envelopes from an envelope slot. I use them both on a HP 632 deskjet. K word seems like it may be nice in the future, but it lacks a few desirable abilities. ShalomOut Chal Elder PCUSA Registered Linux user # 217118 "Dr. Evil" wrote: I have a Deskjet 882c printer. It works fine with kword (sucks with printing graphics though). It has a handy little slot on it for putting in envelopes. However, I don't see how to get Kword to make use of it by orienting text the right way and formating it in the correct position. Any hints? Or are there some other utilities out there which can print using this setup? Thanks Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately I have never been able to get Star Office to print! I need to look into that. In the future, Kword is going to be fantastic. MS may have some real competition from that corner. Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://.mandrakestore.com

I still get this envelope problem, though. Karen I wasn't given the opportunity to setup a printer, however, Karen StarOffice tells me I have a generic printer. It prints Karen documents okay (albeit VERY slowly). It's weird because Karen all my other applications have my printer listed as Karen "epson", which is what I named it. The printer drop-down Karen box in Star Office doesn't contain any other options Karen besides that Generic Printer. What printer drop-down menu? The one where you select the printer after you tell it to print something, before you click OK. (But never mind, I have my drivers in there now). What version of Star Office? I have 5.1 from Sun here, and 5.1 from Star Division, and on the desktop is an icon "Printer Setup", which is a link to $(inst)/bin/spadmin.bin I have Star Office 5.1a and Mandrake 6.1. So far I'm caught up with you. I found how to setup the printer and I have my various drivers set in there (Curiously, the driver that's supposed to print up to 1440dpi can't be changed in StarOffice's configuration to anything past 300, but that's another issue). Anyway, after putting in the drivers, Star Office still botches up envelopes by printing them at the wrong orientation and then printing numerous pages of gobbledygook until I turn the printer off and delete the queue. Too bad, Star Office would be great for my needs if it weren't for this one problem. Thanks for any input you can give me! Karen

Do you have an Epson 660 too? I'd like to try WP8. I was just wanting the convenience of a total office suite, though. So it wouldnt help to choose another driver in SO, the Stylus Color 660 is Esc-P2. There are two ghostscript drivers for the Epson 660: The Driver for any Stylus Color and the driver for Stylus color 500. The latter is reported to have problems with color printing. Also other b/w Esc-P2 drivers possibly would work. Look to http://www.suse.de,choose english language and look up the hardware database for Esc-P2 printers.
