Your /usr/lib/mozilla-1.1/plugins folder should contain rpnp.so from your
Real Player download.

I also find it useful to create a symlink from /usr/lib/mozilla-1.1/ to
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins That way Opera and Konqueror will find the mozilla
plugins with their default plugin paths, and you will not need to adjust
them.
To create a symlink
ln -s /usr/lib/mozilla-1.1 /usr/lib/mozilla

Re: [newbie] Real Player Installation Problem?

I launch it by going to the Kmenu-Multimedia-and clicking on the Real Player
launcher it created there. But when I click on it it seems like it's going to
star it. I can even see, for an instant, that it takes a space on the
applications dock on the panel. However, after an instant nothing happens and
it doesn't load. As I've said before it does work cleanly on Gnome.

Re: [newbie] Real Player Installation Problem?

2001-05-22 Thread TezcatlipocA

Hi Sher,
I really apreciate your help. I would really like a copy of RP 7 but
unfortunately I do not have a broadband connection. I use a 56k modem. Do
you by chance have it on your webpage? Another thing is if Real Player would
not work on 7.2 why does it work on Gnome then? I installed while on KDE but
it doesn't finish loading when I launch it. But when I'm on Gnome it works
just fine. Something else is that I did not install the rmp version I
installed the rp8_linux20_libc6i386_cs1.bin one, which is the one that
says to download and install on LM 7.2 on the Demo pages.

On Monday 21 May 2001 19:34, you wrote:
 Dear TezcatlipocA:

I know precisely how to solve this. I had the same problem. The problem has
to do with the fact that RealPlayer 8 (built on Red Hat) uses the new rpm
 v. 4 and NOT rpm v.3, which was used up till LM 7.2. Rpm v.4 was first
introduced in Mandrake with LM 8.0. I tried to install RealPlayer 8 in LM
7.2 (as you are doing). First, DO NOT DO IT! It is meant for a different
architecture, that is, for rpm v.4. Secondly, I tried the rpm8...bin file.
The plugins didn't work. Your best bet is either to get LM 8.0 or else to
get RealPlayer 7. There is little difference between RealPlayer 7 and 8 for
all practical purposes (unless the sites you wish to play specifically
demand RP8). Well, there is no way to get RealPlayer 7 from RealPlayer
itself. They only have the latest version.

But you are in luck. I have a copy of RealPlayer 7, the rpm version that
will work perfectly with LM 7.2. If you decide you want it and have a
broadband connection, write to me and I'll send it to you by attachment. Be
sure in that case to install the plugins in Mimetypes/Plugins under
 RealPlayer's Help menu category.

For users of Netscape 4.x, the following will get you up an running:

Log in as root and download the .bin Unix/Linux Realplayer binary file
from www. real.com
Open a console, and type in chmod u+x
Press the enter key
Type in: ./rp8*
Press the enter key

This will start up the installation. Proceed with the installation.

You must add several entries for streaming media/video and audio.
Hopefully, in the future real.com will improve their support(I wouldn't
hold my breath) for their Unix/Linux binary and rpms. For now, their
support is extremely poor or nonexistent for a "mega buck" company.

Antonio;

Go to their website - click free download (Real Player 7); when you select
download from that page; it will ask you which OS you want.

It is there
Go to this site:
http://proforma.real.com/real/player/player.html?src=000321realhome,000315choice_1dc=330329328

Under O/S select:
Red Hat Linux 6.0 (i386 only) RPM (beta only)
Download it to your root directory. (I logged in and D/Led it
while under root)
Don't forget to print/type the installation instructions from the D/L
screen...
Then type the simple installation line under the terminal window...

Re: [newbie] Real Player

2000-03-28 Thread Anthony Huereca

Heh, I know what you mean. I was so incredibly happy the day I got Real Player
to work (turned out the one I downloaded off of Real's site didnt' play nice
with Mandrake, and to download a different one), or the day I finally got a new
kernel to configure and compile. That's what i like about Linux, finding out
new things and playing around with them.

After having much frustration getting anything to run under linux

I D/Led Real Player from www.real.com, simple instructions. Typed a
couple of lines and BINGO! IT WORKS

Worked great last night... However for some reason this morning it
 didn't want to work...

A quick re-install and it works again. Wow...

Last week I got the printer utility to work from clicking on the
 desktop...

 Little victories I know... :-)

Next week I install Word Perfect Office 2000 for linux..
 Shudder :-)

A lot of people (including me) have found that, after they installed LM7,
the c++ headers (libg++) wasn't installed. You should be able to get that
rpm off your installation disk or off any of the LM ftp mirrors and
install it.

Hi You may have seen my earlier mail concerning finding RealPlayer, well
I found it eventually(it is not realplayer 7 or G2 or whatever it is the
 older realplayer 3).
Anyway I downloaded it to /home/craig/tmp and tried to install it using
kpackage but it says that libg++.so.2.7.2 is unsatisfied (like I care
about that!!) anyway as a result it will not install. Any ideas (in very
very simple terms) where I can get this thing from and how to install
 it
 Thanks in advance

Dear Mike:

Forget about RealPlayer 5.0 and download the new RealPlayer G2 Alpha for
Linux (get the RH rpm) from:

Jeanette,

Mine just came up as expired as well. Does anyone have a solution?
This is one program I'd consider buying if it is stable.

Hi Rick,
Follow this link to the fixed download it worked for me

http://linuxtoday.com/talkback/40668.html

One thing I noticed is that the presets work but only as root in this version
of G2

 Hi,

I installed Real Player G2, without errors, and I added the player as helper
for Netscape 4.61. I use Mandrake 6.0, with 2.2.10 kernel.
When I click on a link I don't get anything. Even if I try to lunch the player
with /usr/bin/rvplayer ( the I get Segmentation fault core dumped ).

G2 is called by 'realplay', not rvplayer. Maybe you're launching Real
5.0 and it's crashing?

Who was the gentleman who had the troubles with the Real Player G2? I want
to
download it, but I want the G2 player, not the version 5 that they give
for
the Unix flavors. Where did you get the files for Linux is what I am
trying
 to ask :)

 thank you

Try ftp://ftp.cirr.com/pub/utils/g2a1_linux22.bin (this is the one with the
best dl time right now, as told by GoZilla). Or you can go to Lycos FTP
Search to find another site.
