RE: [newbie] samba configuration in 10.0

Yes, make a copy of your /etc/samba/smb.conf. The 3.0 rpm
borked mine.

Bill

Subject: [newbie] samba configuration in 10.0

I'll install shortly 10.0 Official on my office PC, which I currently
use with 9.2 as samba server to share some Linux partitions (no
printers) with windows co-workers. I understand 10.0 includes
 samba 3.x,
 while 9.2 uses samba 2.x.

Are there any gotchas I should be aware of for the porting of
 the samba
configuration files, or is it painless? I am not using any graphical
 configuration tool for this task.

 thanks,

 raffaele

 Hi all...

Please I need help to configure the Samba

it is all I need: validate the users and share some files...

 thanx all

Samba will work out of the box
All you need to do is configure the Workgroup name and create users.
There is a Wizard to help you. Just install the drakwizard RPM from your CDs
then your Mandrake Control Centre will have a 'Server' section with a Samba
Wizard in it.

After running the wizard run the command (as root )
smbpasswd -a user_name
for each remote user with files on the server.
(The user name must exist in Linux and Windows)

It is also possible to configure Samba for an authentication server, but I
have never done that.
