It does a fairly nice job of it, but if the file is very large, import one page at a time for the best results. Also, read the man page (and other documentation) for xpdf -- it allows for selecting blocks of text from PDF files. It also comes with a number of utilities for extracting the pieces of PDF files (e.g., fonts and graphics, in particular). I use its pdfimages for extracting the graphics, and it does a great job. deedee Registered Linux User #327485 Visit "WordStar & GNU/Linux" http://www.wordstar2.com Also, see WordStar Users Group Community http://www.wordstar2.com/WordStar_Users/index.php -- ___ Find what you are looking for with the Lycos Yellow Pages http://r.lycos.com/r/yp_emailfooter/http://yellowpages.lycos.com/default.asp?SRC=lycos10 Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Are there and pdf programs out there that let me copy and paste into other formats or is there a way to save as into another format? I see that I can download a linux version of acrobat but if i can get around that it would be nice. It's very good. See if it's available on urpmi. Cheers, Mrugesh Karnik Registered Linux User #375243 Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Do: urpmi acroread After you have installed that, you can copy text (only text, as far as I know) from there to other formats. Re: [newbie] pdf editing
This seems to be the best "non-Adobe" solution. http://applications.linux.com/article.pl?sid=05/01/06/0612209&from=rss Adobe has release a brand new beta version of their pdf editor. I dont have a link but they have a linux version too for the first time.
