[newbie] ScanJet 4c
Being that I am coming from a limited FreeBSD back ground, I am haveing some trouble with another device. I now have a ScanJet 4c with the SCSI card that came with it from HP. I am running LM 8.1. LM does not find the card. All I did was actually reinstall LM. It still did not see it. Should I get another SCSI card, if so, what kind should I get. I really like this scanner, and would like to get it working with LM8.1, any help would me great. Bob Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com

I have been reading this thread because I have a USB microtech compact flash card reader and I have been having the same problem attempting to mount it as others have. Here's the information from Harddrake: Vendor: eUSB Model: Compact Flash Device: /dev/sda Bus Type: SCSI Capacity: 1047 MB Heads: 64 Sectors: 32 Cylinders: 1023 Here's my fstab entry: /dev/sda /media/camera vfat ro,noauto, user 0 0 This is the response I get when attempting to mount this device: mount -t vfat /dev/sda /media/camera mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda, or too many mounted file systems I hope someone can shed some light on why this won't mount. Thanks for the help. TC Dont mount as /dev/sda, mount as /dev/sda1. /dev/sda is the, as I see it, top of the sda device list, the header, and sda1, sda2, are the devices. __ Do You Yahoo!? Re: [newbie] Card Reader Other USB Devices
On Thursday 27 December 2001 14:59, you wrote: I'm getting closer - I think. I can plug in my various USB devices, and the Control Center shows some of them as disks: the Card Reader at /dev/sda and the camera (Olympus C700; great performer, btw) at /dev/sdb. The Teleport USB modem shows up when I use UsbView, but I haven't spotted it yet under Control Center. Anyway: when I try to mount (as root) the camera or the card reader, as in: mount -t vfat /dev/sda /mnt/camera, I get this in return: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda, or too many mounted file systems. Any hints or suggestions? I have a feeling that the usb modem is falling into the Other Devices black hole. It's funny that UsbView finds and identifies it, and Control Center doesn't. I hope that someone steers me in the right direction so that I can use these things. It's tough being a Linux evangelist when you can't get the system to let you use something, and yet it's automatically loaded in Windows! [newbie] PowerChute
I am installing PowerChute Plus, from APC, for my Back-UPS. When I run the Configuration Tool, I am getting these messages: Checking for binary compatibility... binary compatibility VERIFIED /dev/ttyS0 verified as a valid tty The following Port validations for /dev/ttyS0 may take a few moments /dev/ttyS0 appears to be a local control port WARNING: Port must be configured for modem control in order to work with a Simple Signaling UPS Press Enter to continue WARNING: Could not communicate with device on /dev/ttyS0. Check that the communications cable is attached properly to both the device and the serial port. NOTE: Though the PowerChute Plus for UNIX installation is complete, if you quit before verifying communications, the application may not work properly The Back-UPS is reciveing a signal from the computer because the light is flashing. I do not understand what the modem control is. If you can help me, that would be great. Bob Bomar Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com
