[newbie] Mdk 9.1- how to upgrade??

Hi

To be frank, it took
me a few months to set up some of the "good stuff" in my "three-month old" mdk
9.0, like Exceed XDMCP remote login, Samba, hardware,network...etc.
Basically I just finished making it a handy workstation andstarted to
enjoy it. Right nowI am getting excited with the new features and upgraded
performance from the latest Mdk 9.1. But I am really not sure -is there a
way toupgrade without affecting all my previous configuration?I am
not a guru in linux, and I know I am going to be mad if I have to go through the
painstaking process again! :p

I heard that by
default mdk 9.1 installation does not change the original /home directory. But
how about things I mentioned above? Shall I choose the option "upgrade" when
installing? I really want to know - how you experts upgrade? ( I am sure you
have donemuch more than me on your mdk 9.0!)

Thanks,
Shan

[newbie] Successful! Installing LinNeighborhood

Thanks everyone...for the prompt replies. This is by far the best
maillist I have ever joined ! ;)

I have smoothly installed the LinNeighborhood and started playing
around. Will read more about the samba configuration using SWAT or
webmin (domain, file sharing, rights and all these...), see if I can
settle the file sharing task myself first. :)

Thanks again!

Shan

[newbie] Configuring smbfs

2003-03-13 Per discussione Kou Shan Shan
Hi,

I have a mdk 9.0 box running but I am facing some problems when trying
to set up samba file sharing

NT servers can be viewed clearly in the Mandrake Control Center under
samba mount points option. I can see the online folder (from a Win NT
workstation) which I want to access as well. However, when I pressed
mount, it always tells me failed. I have chosen user mode in the
mount options.

I doubt that this has to do with my smb.conf file, as I did not do any
configuaration for it. But I am not so sure how to carry on from here as
there are so many options in the smb.conf file.

I appreciate any advice! Many thanks!

Shan
