Re: [newbie] Does AbiWord crash on you?

What do you mean by "crash"...it won't let you write to the file because all
permissions are set as root, but this
should be the extent of it...

 Here's one for you.

Log in as root, and type up something simple in AbiWord. Save it to
 /usr/home/your_name.
Next, log in as user. Open the same file and add a couple of lines to
the document. Try to save it.
 Does it crash?

Cheapbytes or LinuxCentral for $1.99
and assure that you are getting a good copy?you's save the price of a
blank CD too...just a thought...

 Hi Guys,

Thanks for the help, Ive finally managed to write the image to disk.

It took 4 nights to complete the download, after which, I booted into
win***s
98, from there 12 attempts to write the image using nero, and easy cd
 creator!!!
Still no joy. (Just as well it was a cd/rw )

So back into 7.1, and used the cdrecord command. worked 1st time :-)

Time to wipe Mr Gate's guff software from my h/d!!!

 Cheers guys

My bios clock is correct. My desktop clock changes every time I reboot.
I can not get it to lock in to my bios clock. Any Ideas?

I don't have a really good explanation but I can tell you what worked for
me. I had Mandrake 7.2 installed on two different machines..same
motherboards but different BIOS revision dates. The one with the newer BIOS
date worked fine...the one with the older exhibited exactly the same
symptoms as you outline. Updating the BIOS to the newer version cured the
problem on the malfunctioning PC. BTW...the machine that experienced the
proble also exhibited the same behavior with another distro with specs
similar to MDK 7.2

Re: [newbie] LM7.2/Macmillain -- KDE2 IS FINAL!!

 Dear friends:

 Good news!

I am happy to report that I was WRONG. I just heard from Kevin Loane at
Macmillain. I placed a call to him yesterday afternoon and just heard
from his this afternoon. He told me that he had investigated the
situation concerning LM7.2/KDE 2.0 Macmillain official version (Complete
and I assume also DeLuxe) and ASSURED me that the official version which
will come out on Nov. 28 contain newly printed CD's which do include KDE
2.0 Final, NOT a beta. I repeate: KDE 2.0 FINAL.

So, it appears the rumors are wrong and that LM 7.2/Macmillain will have
 the latest KDE 2.0 Final.

It would nice to hear this confirmed from Mandrake, as well.

If so, I would say that was a very wise move by Mandrake, and I am sure
 we all appreciate it.

 Thank you.

 Benjamin

Your enthusiasm is appreciated, but the advice you have been receiving has
been correct. As per LM's web site...no commercial version currently
includes the 2.o KDE...It is nice to see McMillan doing this at the end of
the month, but right now, as it stands today, the inforamtion passed to you
here has been 100% accurateBTW...I share the concerns of some other
posters as to differentiating the two...I will guarantee you that the there
is a ot of the 1.99 version product floating around in the retail pipeline
and it most assuredly isn't going to evaporate off the shelves overnight...

The 7.2 Complete Does Not include kde 2.0 final.
You can update it to 2.0 using Mandrake Update, except in 7.2 it is now
 just Updates.

  Dear Friends:

I would like to inquire if the Linux-Mandrake 7.2 Complete ($29.95) sold
by Macmillain has the real KDE 2.0 FINAL version. I ordered it from
Macmillain but they don't seem to know which KDE 2.0 is included.

I wonder if others are in the same boat.

  Thank you so much.

Yup, I found the same info on the LM web site indicating that none of the
commercial releases have the newer KDE. Frankly, I'll use the freebie
version until this changes this doesn't seem like the worlds greatest
marketing idea to meG
